Dawlish is a unique resort with magnificent red sandstone cliffs and the railway weaving its way through tunnels right by the sea. I ate at the Brunswick Arms and the Lansdowne public houses, both excellent. There are convenient buses and trains to take you to Teignmouth, Exeter and beyond.
I always vist Dawlish when I come to Devon, the town centre is easy to get around on foot and on a hot day sitting by or walking along Dawlish water and watching the famous black swans and other water birds is a popular pastime. The walk along the sea wall from Dawlish to Dawlish Warren is a must too and hopefully the new sea wall will be finished soon and you will be able to access it from the sea front again. The public transport links are generally good and so its easy to visit other local towns, beaches and visitor attractions. There are plenty of local eating places to choose from and a variety of takeaway places too.
Dawlish is a fantastic place to stay. It has lots of different shops, cafés., gift shops, beach shops, and most of all the stream going through the town with Black Swans, Mallard Ducks and moorhens etc. The baby ducks are kept in a heated viewing area until they have grown and then put outside in a covered area for a while. You can picnic on The Lawn. Gays Creamery sells fantastic pies, pasties and cream teas and much more which shouldn't be missed! There are about 3 beaches and Dawlish Warren is just up the road which has a fantastic long beach. As you can imagine I simply love it there! The only drawback is that there are hills in parts, but NOT in the town, stream area, the lawn and beach. I have taken a relation in a wheelchair there and it was very easy to wheel them around.
Dawlish Warren and surrounding areas are definitely worth a visit. Dawlish is a beautiful setting, very picturesque and the gardens are well looked after. A ride in the train by the sea is a must do. Teignmouth the next place on is also worth a visit, lovely sea front walks and plenty of shops. Public transport in this area of Devon is excellent, with the train and the buses.
Unfortunately the beach is closed for a few months, as it’s being worked on but you can go to Dawlish Warren beach. So we are unable to give a review on the beach but I would imagine it to be wonderful with easy access when it’s finished. The restaurant Reflections, is lovely. Excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend. The Brunswick is also good. The ice cream parlour near the river is superb. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. It’s just a perfect place.
If you care about railways, this is a must-visit place. Railway history (atmospheric railway, anyone?) and just the stunning sight of trains on the Sea Wall. Had a wonderful stay at the Blenheim and delicious meal at Gurkha, and can recommend both.
The check in was swift and on time. The grounds are extensive and very well maintained. It's a pleasure to sit on the lawn and look out to sea. The Hotel is spotlessly clean and kept to a high standard. It is a short walk down the hotel drive to a bus stop that can take you in to both Dawlish or Dawlish Warren. Dawlish Warren beach is down a steep hill and takes around five minutes to walk to. This was perfect for me as i arrived on the train and didn't have transport whilst i was there.

The breakfast menu was excellent. Lots of choices and flavoursome. Fiona and Rob were excellent hosts. Visited during hot weather and the house/room were cool which was refreshing. The little extra touches ie home made cookies were a reminder of home as was the fresh bottle of water each day. Also we were collected to and from the train station were was very welcome. Fiona had a wealth of knowledge about Dawlish and the surrounding area which was very helpful in planning our day.

Lovely apartment, very clean, very well equipped, beautiful view from the little terrace of the pretty grounds and trees behind, such a quiet and peaceful location yet so close to Dawlish Warren amenities. We had rabbits, squirrels, ducks and pigeons to watch as we sipped our drinks in the sun. So easy to communicate with kind friendly owners. Amazing value for money. Would definitely recommend.

Only had a light breakfast but food varied and fresh. Main problem was in finding the hotel when I arrived in Dawlish, as I don't have sat-nav, got lost but, I have to say that a stranger plus Ian (manager) were both very helpful.
