Excellent location with pretty views over the countryside...yet not far off the motorway! The room was clean, the staff were approachable and friendly and the overall " vibe" with locals in the bar and restaurant made for a lovely stay. Evening meal was well presented and very tasty...as was the hearty breakfast !

We had a wonderful time. The room was lovely, big and clean, vast choice of food for breakfast, kind and welcoming staff. The dinner we had at the restaurant was delicious, they also let us keep our dog with us while dining and having breakfast. Special mention: our dog was spoiled by the staff, cuddled and so very welcome.

Fantastic find! This was a wonderful four day stay for our group of 14 people. The owners took great care of us, going out of their way to make it a most pleasant stay. Loved having breakfast available, a good variety - eggs to order, fresh, warm croissants, fresh coffee or tea.

I arrived on my motorcycle on Saturday 9th May. The hotel has a fabulous garage to keep cars and bikes safe. Met some lovely other tourists in the bar and the bar staff and hotel manager were very engaging. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying there.

Large historic building, very impressive features, but decorated in a modern way. Although it wasn’t a cold November, a wood burning stove was lit in the dining room, giving the room a warm and cosy atmosphere. We had a delicious meal, perfectly cooked. The owner was very friendly and helpful, as soon as we had checked in, he took our luggage to our room without being asked. My husband is disabled but likes to do things himself even if he struggles so this was a huge help. All in all, a lovely overnight stay, I would recommend highly.

Ecclefechan is an excellent stopover for us, being almost exactly the halfway point of our journey, and very close to the motorway. It has historical interest, being the birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, and it's towspeople are unfailingly helpful and friendly.

The Ecclefechan Hotel was perfect, the host cath was so welcoming, the bedroom was lovely, comfortable and warm , it had a lovely en suite, with lovely hand soap , shampoo, the shower was lovely and hot , There was lovely selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate along with some nice biscuits , The breakfast was amazing, it filled us up for most of the day ,

Ecclefechan has a museum based in Thomas Carlyle's birthplace which is worth visiting. Nearby is the Devil's Porridge Museum which details life and events at MOD Gretna Green explosives factory. Also the coastline is very pretty.

Ecclefechan itself is a bit of a ghost town very tired...

Ecclefechan itself is a bit of a ghost town very tired looking centre just a small general store.We went to eat at the Cressfield hotel on outskirts of village by caravan site.We ate there and would reccommend their evening meals.Ecclefechan is in quite a good position to see some of the surrounding countryside and coast.

Clean comfortable made very welcome , felt too many dont’s in conversation and didn’t like a note being put on bed we were not using after being told not to use empty bed , down side had to travel into Gretna for food to bring back , many more information on that would be useful but I also didn’t ask , have to say thank you for letting us leave a bit later to go to wedding

We also stayed at Kirkconnel Hall Hotel on the M6, just off the motorway. The location was very convenient for our trip to the Lake District. The rooms were very clean, and although the hotel is quite old, it has been nicely renovated and was impressively well-maintained. Both hosts were great and very helpful, and the breakfast waiter was friendly and attentive. Overall, a very pleasant stay!

Very clean and well -appointed ensuite room in a block of 3 at a farm location. Good WiFi and TV. Good emailed instructions for access. Excellent value for money and a nice alternative to our usual motorway service station hotel overnight stays between Aberdeen and Lancashire.
