It’s been years since I was last in Exeter and it has changed a lot. Really vibrant, smart, young city with great shops and restaurants and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. My favourite part has always been the Cathedral green area, it’s so pretty and traditional.
Exeter is a beautiful city. The Cathedral looks wonderful from the outside, I will go in and look at the interior on my next visit. There are lots of lovely places to sit and eat especially down near the quay, and in the area in front of the Cathedral. Walking along the river is lovely, plenty of bridges so you can walk in one direction then cross over to walk back. Lots of lovely architecture in the town with plenty of historical buildings. Very well served by train services, busses, cycle paths and walking paths. Trips to surrounding towns and sea side resorts are very easy to do. Something for everyone, from small children to the oldest adults, there is plenty to keep you occupied.
We were there to take my daughter to The University of Exeter. The city was lovely and the people were friendly. There were numerous shops and restaurants. We really did not have time to sightsee. We ate at the Firehouse. The food was good.We walked everywhere.I know there was excellent bus transportation but we did not use it.We were told there was a short train ride leading to the coast but due to time constraints did not go.
Exeter has a picturesque setting where historic buildings mingle with modern eateries. The high street has everything you need without the massive crowds found in a bigger city. I highly recommended a visit to Exeter. I moved there for work and fell in love almost instantly.
Great, vibrant city with loads of high class shops and bars; a lovely cathedral and a nice swanky quayside with antique shops and hungry swans/geese waiting - feeding them is real fun. A fab city which is a great base to explore the West Country. You can walk all around easily enough. Good restaurants on cathedral green.
Exeter is a lively city with a great historic precinct linked to the commercial shopping district. It has many beautiful side streets, access to some wonderful walking trails and a lot a good restaurant options. We were primarily there to use the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (not a first choice for a visit to Exeter!!), and it is an excellent health care facility. It was easy to walk everywhere and the Devon countryside is on view from various parts of Exeter.
“Lovely clean hotel within walking distance to the shops”
