Set in the old village center of Whickham, The Gibside Hotel provides en suite accommodations, free Wi-Fi throughout, a restaurant and a bar. The staff were all so friendly and kind and could not do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble and you felt you were the only guests. I would not hesitate to use the facility again if I am up that way and I would also recommend it to anyone. It was a good hearty breakfast that set you up for the day ahead.

In Gateshead, Sutherlands Hotel offers stylish rooms with free WiFi. There is free private parking and Newcastle is a 5-minute drive away. Booked a room for my Mum as she had to go into hospital the next day for a major opp. Room was perfect for her and all staff were so kind and caring and they allowed me to stay with her for a few hours before I sadly had to leave and travel home. Brought her a lovely breakfast up to her room, helped her with her luggage and even helped her get to the hospital on the morning, going way beyond anything mum and I could have hoped for.

The Tyne & Wear day ticket with Go North East buses was great value for money. There is a great cafe around the corner from the property called Peddling Squares which does a great breakfast & opens at 9am on a Sunday. There are also several good micropubs in the vicinity which can all be easily accessed via the local bus service.
The hotel was lovely, reception, lobby and restaurant area decorated lovely for Christmas! Room was very clean! I would add a few cups and spoons as hotel provides tea bags and coffee sachet but no mugs or spoons! Plenty of lovely fluffy white towels. Water in the bathroom was a bit too hot,but we addressed that to the reception. Overall we will be back to the hotel! Swimming pool and sauna were amazing and we had a lot of fun with kids there. Staff in the restaurant was very friendly!
Gateshead town is desperate for investment, it's not a holiday destination or weekend break. Gateshead centre is virtually closed. Derelict, run down empty shops. Rough area. Newcastle side of the Tyne Bridge is wonderful. Bustling, vibrant and stunning
We where in Gateshead for the funeral of an ex Work colleague and good friend so did not spend time in Gateshead. Stayed in the hotel getting to know his family and seeing old work colleagues. These people had 500 years accumulated service with Greggs since 1955 till 2010.
Ideal location for Newcastle and Gateshead. Quiet hotel just off the A1. Hotel has everything, restaurant, good bar area, spacious rooms and a comfortable bed. Next morning excellent breakfast. Highly recommended.
Didn’t stay here to visit Gateshead even though the Metro Centre is on that side of the river. The attraction of this location is ease of access to Newcastle. Even though a native of the region I’m not aware of anything worth visiting in Gateshead itself, apart perhaps from the Sage, which is on the river and thus virtually part of Newcastle.
We received a warm welcome on arrival and, during the whole stay, all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and tidy and the bed very comfortable. We only had breakfast there, with a good choice for everyone - I would recommend the 'full English'. The hotel is in a quiet location and the grounds are a delight (when it's sunny!)
This is a great hotel made special by the friendliness of the staff.everyone from reception the bar and the lovely lady who brought our breakfast at no extra cost to the room (as we had a dog so could not go to the restaurant). Will definitely stay again next time we are in the area.
The staff here are excellent, always warm, friendly and helpful. Location is perfect for what I needed, close to the metro centre and close to Blaydon where my sister lives. Always clean, good breakfast choice.ive stayed a few times in this hotel and will happily stay again.
Gateshead
Really helpful & pleasant lady arranged where to meet to check-in as the property isn't at first glance easy to find. Tea & coffee in the room with TV. Room was clean & the location was handy for buses to Gateshead Metro Centre & Newcastle.
Gateshead
Excellent quiet and friendly hotel, very peaceful surroundings. Great place to stay with lots of local facilities only a few miles away. Considering the proximity to Gateshead and Newcastle this feels like a very rural location.
Excellent effort made to provide a fully vegan breakfast - much appreciated. The room was lovely, clean and spacious, and surprisingly quiet given the main road location of the hotel.
The staff were polite and friendly. The room was really comfortable and warm. The local bus was able to take us into Gateshead or Newcastle, so the location was really good.
The hotel room was very comfortable and the beds where lovely. I would stay here again. Staff were very helpful and booked us a taxi.
great location for Gateshead and a view of The Angel of the North ! food was good and great value
