About Gloucester

Gloucester, a city in the United Kingdom, is steeped in rich history and culture. Its climate is temperate maritime, with mild summers averaging around 70°F and cool winters averaging 40°F. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year, making the city lush and green.

The city is known for its stunning landmarks such as the Gloucester Cathedral, a magnificent example of English Gothic architecture. The Gloucester Docks, with its Victorian warehouses, is another must-visit. The city has an efficient public transportation system, with buses being the primary mode of local transport. However, the city center is compact and easily walkable.

Gloucester's culture is deeply rooted in its Roman and Medieval history. The city is part of the larger Cotswolds region, known for its rolling hills and quaint villages. The local cuisine is hearty and comforting, featuring dishes like Gloucester Old Spot Pork, a locally reared breed of pig, and Double Gloucester, a traditional, semi-hard cheese.

Yes gloucester is a nice area.

Yes gloucester is a nice area. But I would avoid staying at the new Inn, the management isn't fit for purpose. I've bren in other places with better management and more customer awareness. Management highly sensitive, room needs refurbishment. Just remember if you do stay there avoid saying something management doesn't like at the new inn, or you end up with a wooden bed, no shower or mattress. They get your money and you get free accommodation from his majesties police force. Don't waste your money, there is better accommodation in the area. Otherwise the area has great views, canal walks, and walks in general. And other stuff going on for it. It's a gorgeous place

    Interesting city.

Interesting city. Walks available, along canal, and nature reserve. Cathedral, old buildings, museums ETC to visit. Docks area great for drinking & dining. Small enough to reach everything on foot.

The historic dock area has been done up and is a pleasant area for pedestrians with plenty of seating. The Waterways museum is excellent, good for kids and adults. There are many different places to eat to suit different tastes and budgets. If visiting the cathedral it’s well worth paying for the guided tour. There is also evidence of the other side of city life - homeless people on the streets, closed shops, shouting, noise at night, but it’s no bad thing to be aware of the reality.

Gloucester is very much like many other cities in the UK, closed shops and very quiet. The advantage was the cathedral. It is an ideal base for travelling, we visited the Cotswolds and other local places.

Took the park and ride which was great.

Took the park and ride which was great. Walked around the cathedral but didnt feel the £6 entry "donation" was right for us as we were only going to spend 10 minutes if we had gone in. Lots of shops including charity shops which I love!

The hotel was set in beautiful surroundings. Easy access to Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. Staff were very attentive. Small niggles were resolved promptly. Staff adhered to Covid prevention measures. For the standard of accommodation the price was very competitive. The room was very quiet as requested, and the bed was large and comfortable. Bathroom was clean with a powerful shower.

Original booking was for The Central Hotel but got moved to The County Hotel about 3 weeks before our trip due to the other hotel being taken over for a corporate booking. We were promised rooms of a better standard and size.Wasn't our 1st choice and wouldn't choose to stay again. The location for shops, bars and the quays is good from the County Hotel. Microwave and fridge in room was handy.

Fantastic location right in the centre of Gloucester with parking a short walk away too, the price really was cheaper than budget hotels and the apartment was so clean and homely. The beds were particularly comfy and we loved the top floor so you could use the velux windows to look out. Really can't fault this apartment for value for money and cleanliness will definitely stay again.

This very old hotel has an amazing history dating back to 1450 and as it is so old there are outside stairs and narrow corridors and is not immaculate. We did not see any ghosts! It is a 5 minute walk to the cathedral and about a 15 minute walk to Gloucester Quays and the shops and restaurants, so in a very good location. We did not eat at the hotel.

Freshly cooked evening meal on arrival and breakfasts were very good, although choice was limited. Hotel is handy for visiting Gloucester cathedral and docks, as well for the forest of Dean for hiking and cycling. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's possible to walk into Gloucester via the riverside paths, just under 2 miles

The Spalite Hotel is perfectly located in the city center of Gloucester — makes it super easy to get to the nice areas around the docks/quays, which are literally just around the corner. The owner was super nice and the hotel room was cozy.

Location was good as hotel was in central Gloucester. No parking, but used roof car park at virtually adjacent shopping centre for convenience. In room facilities great - microwave, kettle and fridge. Shower was very good.

Easy access, big car park, clean rooms, comfy beds - as you can expect from Holiday Inn Express chain. Can't fault it for 1,2 nights stay. It's basic but very solid group of hotels. Gloucester branch confirmed it all.
