Holiday Inn Express Gloucester - South, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Gloucester

Just 1 mile from the M5 motorway and 3.5 miles from Gloucester city center, the Holiday Inn Express Gloucester - South offers rooms with attached bathroom and a buffet breakfast.

Really impressed with the holiday inn. We stayed for one night on our way down to Cornwall as our dog isn't great in the car. Dog friendly room which was immaculate, comfortable bed and a decent size. Great selection at breakfast. Would definitely stay again. Staff were lovely. What made the stay for me was we were given a doggy goodie bag on arrival, treats and a ball..... shadow was very happy.

The Cathedral is lovely, interesting historically and also of interest to Harry Potter fans as some of the films used it as a location. Very nice cafe for lunch. The docks are nice. We had a very good tea on a barge.

We had a lovely weekend in Gloucester.

We had a lovely weekend in Gloucester. My absolute favourite was the Gloucester Cathedral. The historical atmosphere around the Cathedral is stunning. The staff was very kind and helpful. If somebody is a Harry Potter fan like me, discovering a movie scene is an extra bonus. The walk around the city centre, shopping area is nice. My daughter really enjoyed looking around in some local shops like Cauldron Creations, close to the Cathedral. My kids liked the Legal Exhibition so much. We stayed for two nights in the Holiday Inn Hotel, where we enjoyed the swimming pool and the gym. I really recommend this city for a short break.

Gloucester is a beautiful and interesting place to visit.

Gloucester is a beautiful and interesting place to visit. Abundant history, welcoming cathedral and fascinating dock area with the waterways museum, so worth spending time with its videos of true Gloucester characters - also a great boat trip available- even likely to see a pirate! Lovely wide pedestrian areas and attractive alleys. Fabulous towers of flowers brightening the streets; atmospheric flags decorating everywhere and interesting sculptures. A wide variety of places to eat, some very atmospheric. Car parking charges really reasonable. BEST OF ALL... people are generally pretty kind everywhere, but I have never been to a place where so many people kept going the extra mile to assist - so outstanding that we kept commenting on it - not just tradespeople or people who had anything to gain, but ordinary folk of all ages, going out of their way to guide and assist !!!!

Gloucester offers a mix of history and modern life.

Gloucester offers a mix of history and modern life. Its stunning cathedral is a must-see, showcasing impressive architecture. The city's industrial past is reflected in the restored Gloucester Docks, now a vibrant hub of shops and restaurants. While the city center has its charm, it might feel less polished compared to nearby Cheltenham. Ideal for history buffs and those seeking a quieter pace.

Well placed for the Cotswolds, much to see and do within a 30 minute drive. There are some lovely restaurants in Cheltenham, and Gloucester is interesting to visit. A hike up the Malvern Hills is recommended, the there is an app with detailed walks and durations. Try and visit Bourton on the Water, it’s lovely!

The cathedral is amazing, and the coffee shop hidden in there was also a delight. There is a nice shopping area in the centre of Gloucester. Beatrix Potter shop and small museum was a delight. We visited the nature in art exhibition at a nearby stately home and it was really interesting. The quays were perfect in the evening for a meal -lots of choices of restaurants.

The hotel was lovely. A little disappointed that a full English breakfast was not included in our stay though, this was changed at £5 extra per person per day. The spa facilities were nice and we had a lovely time. The hotel was situated near to Gloucester and Cheltenham and we had a nice time exploring both cities. The reception staff were lovely and very helpful.

The central location of the hotel was fantastic. The shower was refreshing after a hot day working out in the sun setting up Gloucester Park for Pride in Gloucestershire that I was the security manager for.
