I really liked Harleston , I am looking to relocate and I think I would be quite happy in this town. It has such character, lovely old buildings, great small shops, cafes etc. I had a curry in the restaurant there and it was fabulous. Friendly people and very dog friendly . Not too far from the beautiful coast , and surrounded by wonderful countryside. What’s not to like??? Also- plenty of free parking !
One way system makes it difficult to get to hotel in a car especially as told front and back of hotel have different postcodes and the one given on Booking .com site is for front. Phone number on site doesn't work on the couple of times we tried it to get information. Thankfully the local residents were friendly and helpful and helped us find the car park in the end.
Although Harleston itself was a short drive away it is certainly worth visiting but alas covid restrictions do somewhat affect all outings_harleston lends itself to a day out or two to beccles as well where boat hire is recommended.
lovely little village/town. friendly atmosphere and plenty of cafes. Pity the museum was closed but still a very good weekend away. If you go there its worth the short drive to Flixton and visit the aviation museum.
Harleston is a typical market town. The shops are mainly along the main street. It is quite well situated for use as a base for visiting other areas of Suffolk and Norfolk, but the Heritage Coast resorts of Suffolk are a little way away.
We ate at JD Young’s a few times and food was always good. The Swan was also great home cooked food and Indian was lovely too. KM fish and chips not so good batter but chips were good. There is also a lovely bakers in the village and a well stocked Co op With a son of 12 who loves his bike we were well placed for a visit to Thetford Forest to enjoy high lodge. The local park is central and has great facilities for young children and a bmx track was a huge bonus for my son. Southwold is just 50 mins and about the same for Great Yarmouth. Harleston was a great place to travel out from and equally we enjoyed what the village had to offer. Great walking and cycling routes too.
Beautiful location. Clean. Friendly. Large room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Super friendly hosts.
