Helmsley is a beautiful historic town and is a great base for exploring North Yorkshire, particularly if you enjoy walking or cycling. There are lovely shops, cafes and tearooms to tempt you. There is a local brewery and plenty of options for eating - whether it's elevenses, lunch or dinner. It's very easy to get around in Helmsley. We ate at the Feathers and the Black Swan. During your stay, it's well worth a visit to Helmsley Castle and Helmsley Walled Garden. You are also only a short distance from Rievaulx Abbey - well worth the walk and Duncombe Park.
A nice little town, with an EXCELLENT brewery. If you like beer, be sure to stop there. Beware it shuts at 7pm on a Sunday. If you want to choose where to eat, you need to book ahead. The most popular pub restaurant, the Feathers, was fully booked for a sunday night.
A charming place with so many wonderful places to eat and relax. The most amazing flowers and plants adorned nearly every building which made everywhere so colourful. All staff in shops so friendly and welcoming and delicatessens and bakeries selling fresh produce. It has a bird of prey centre and castle ruins and beautiful cottages. The village itself is so well kept and clean and real pleasure to visit.
Open market square many shops and cafes and restaurants, stream, walks, nearby large houses and gardens and if course the castle The surrounding area is fabulous, so Helmsley is a great spot for a week end or longer
Lots to see and do in the area, Rydale museum was really good, Whitby not quite what we were expecting and not that quaint. Robin Hood Bay was beautiful but very up and down so fine for us but wheelchair and buggies would really struggle.
I loved the Market Square which was busy with people wandering around. Helmsley is packed with quaint shops selling a diverse selection of goods. We stayed at The Feathers Hotel - superb in all aspects. Beautiful bedrooms, the bars and restaurant were tastefully decorated and very welcoming. The staff couldn't do enough for you. To mention a few names, Kuba, Riz & Keith in the bar/restaurant, and Mary & Barbara on reception - they're a credit to the hotel. We'll be back :-)
I stayed here on my way to Whitby.....This is a surprisingly large, historic hotel in Helmsley's main market square.....It was lovingly maintained and well run (although I wished the restaurant served at least until 9pm though)......Plenty of free parking in the square after 6pm...The room was spacious, clean, and had a large window that allowed lots of fresh air....There are many restaurants, shops, and pubs in the square, and the Helmsley Castle ruins are in easy walking distance....I would definitely stay here again....
Helmsley
Stilworth house is in the heart of Helmsley, an absolutely gorgeous town. Our host Carol was wonderful, the breakfast was amazing. Our room was perfect for us and it's situation in the centre of town meant that we could pop in and drop off any shopping etc. Carol gave us excellent recommendations including things to see and places to eat. We absolutely adored the town and are planning our return (hopefully with other family members!). Can highly recommend this wonderful b&b.
Helmsley
The location was ideal, easy access and parking. Spotlessly clean. Very comfortable Queen size bed. Excellent hot water and shower. Plenty of plug points for charging equipment. Area for cleaning boots if required. Spot on full English breakfast with special diet provision. Dog friendly if required. Excellent local information for walkers, runners and cyclists. A few minutes gentle walk to Helmsley centre and all the attractions. Clear signposting.
Fabulous customer service. The room was immaculate, tidy and very well presented. Breakfast was superb, and the evening meal again was fabulous. On arrival the hotel was busy (outdoor drinks service & processing arrivals) but the staff were extremely polite and considerate considering.
I love Helmsley and the surrounding area and the Black Swan provides a quality place to stay in a beautiful market town. The hotel has lovely rooms, the hotel is a gallery with lots of artwork, breakfast in the gallery restaurant was very high quality. A really pleasant stay.
