The Red Lion Hotel dates back to the 13th century and features wooden beams hand-carved by Carmelite monks. It was lovely to have an upgrade room. The bed very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep, which I don't normally have in a strange bed, so well done

Hildersham is a small and pretty village with the river running through it. An old bridge and a ford give two ways to cross it. Lots of marked footpaths to explore the local area. Friendly locals who speak to strangers and an excellent restaurant. Quick access by bike or car onto the main road to Cambridge.

Hildersham was a good base for getting to surrounding attractions, near to Cambridge, Saffron Walden and Duxford. Good walks and cycling between nearby villages. Close to long distance footpaths such as the Ickfield Way. Very pleasant countryside on your doorstep. No pub but nearby village has plenty.
This quaint little village with its thatched cottages and pretty gardens is the perfect base for an adventurous break. Pubs and shops within easy drive or for the more agile, a 20 minute countryside walk.
