I like Hungerford, I have lived there in the past. However it was strange that on a Friday evening the pubs were almost empty. The Antique Arcade is always a good place to visit as are other antique shops in the High Street.
The antique centres/shops will keep you entertained for some time. A number of nice pubs with good beer and food plus river boat trips. Nice coffee at the Three Swans and good value, tasty lunch at John O Gaunt. A very pretty town with some lovely architecture.
Our reason for staying in this location was to visit stables as we have a share in a race horse (1 hair only :)) Breakfast and evening meal taken at the accommodation we stayed in - The Queens Arms'. Travelling in the area was very easy and the roads were quiet.
It’s ok, we visit on a regular basis as we have friends who live there. The coffee shop on the entrance road to Tescos is pleasant, as is the cafe with the glass ceiling, situated near to the old town hall
It is a delightful small town and the main street has lots of independent shops, including antique, jewellery and clothes. Parking in the town during the day is an issue unless your hotel has a car park. I liked the fact that it had a canal running through it. And boat trips were available.
A very pretty town with lots of pubs to choose from and a great location for trips into the countryside as well as appreciating the Kennet & Avon canal. We enjoyed our trip on the Rose of Hungerford down the canal. There are also many antique and independent shops to browse through.
Hungerford
Continental breakfast provided in the room (as the pub itself not yet reopened) - all good ! cold, fresh milk :-) for cereal plus croissants, pastry and tea/coffee. Bed comfortable, heating, fan, minibar fridge. Pretty aspect (on the main road but not busy or noisy). Convenient for going in to Hungerford, booked easily at the last minute, and very easy to find/access by car (90 mins drive from London). Good value, and friendly owners/staff.
Hungerford
The location was excellent as we went to Hungerford to research ancestry of our family who lived in the area since 1530. we drove the seven or so miles to Great Bedwyn and then onto Marlborough. We had a very excellent breakfast choose, and decided it was the best place in town for our evening meal's as the room we occupied was on the first floor up a short flight of stairs
Hungerford
