It was a really lovely little town well kept clean lots of lovely gifts shops we went to the inverary jail and loved it so much to learn unfortunately the castle was closed Tuesday & Wednesdays due to staff shortages we will go back very soon
We were staying at Inverary, primarily to visit the castle, which we couldn't do last time we were there, before going on to Oban for a 3 night cruise. We found the castle extremely interesting and with the walks around the grounds, gave us a full day. We dined at the Samphire Restaurant on the first night, which I wasn't impressed about. It was the dearest of all the meals that we had in Scotland and their selection of fish and seafood wasn't that impressive. We dined in The George on the second night and it was excellent. They also have a beer garden with live music in the evening. We had visited the Jail on our previous visit. There is plenty to do for a short stay in the town and easy to walk around. 8 miles outside Inverary, we were surprised to find the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar still open, as I had assumed that it had closed, couldn't find it on google.
Inverary town was quiet at night and a wee hive of industry during the day. The waterside and surrounding countryside are just gorgeous, no matter what the weather. The majority of the shop staff were a joy, especially the Tipsy Laird Supermarket staff who were absolute gems...even let us meet their two gorgeous dogs. We arrived late so the only place available for dinner was the Inverary Inn, food was served in the bar and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. It's very much a commercial "tourist" town, but a good few locals bring an air of genuine Scottish welcoming warmth.
Positive: Nice views, and nice pool area. Negative: A hotel not worth the money. Room very small, expensive and a restaurant with a very limited menu. Restaurant extremely expensive and in my case, they found that what I ordered was not available and asked me to change for other expensive dish.
All good. Had a little trepidation re vegan food but was surprised by the good taste and clean presentation. Very efficient staffing and hospitality by Ms Jennie. Great location. Very green and natural surrounds. And safe distance away from the Caravan parking!! Highly recommended.
We visited the castle but ran out of time for the castle gardens, so plan a longer day for that. Cafe Ocho for delicious vegan food, Hotel George if nothing else is open (nice atmosphere and lovely staff, but really not much in the food department). We did quite a bit of trail hiking in the area, but also enjoyed wandering around the town. Loch Fyne Whiskey Shop and the Wonky Pottery Shop were highlights : )

I wish we had more time to explore the area - they provide a 2 week booklet of different things you could do every day. Very dog friendly too
