FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Also visit, Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, |Culloden is a must see as well. Also well worth a visit is the Dores Inn where you can enjoy a delicious fish tea. Do have a stroll along the beach there where you get magnificent views up the loch.

We had booked a dog friendly stay and was told our dog could be everywhere with us, however not at breakfast as we were asked to leave, very disappointing as we have stayed in a holiday express in Doncaster and could take our dog everywhere

    Loved everything about Inverness!

Loved everything about Inverness! Being just north of Loch Ness was fun and the day trip to the Isle of Skye and Portree was beautiful. Weather cooperated too. We enjoyed our entire trip. London, Cambridge, Isle of Man, Dublin, Kilkenny, Galway, Edinburgh and finished off our trip in Inverness and wouldn't have had it any other way! We selected the perfect time of year for this trip, May 16 - June 7. It was a little cold & rainy but overall the temperatures were perfect. We prefer 60 degree to low 70 degree temperatures. And zero smidges to contend with!

We ate at three restaurants in Inverness, and can recommend all of them, Zizzi, Bella Italia and Coyote Burger. We didn't spend much time in Inverness itself sightseeing, but can recommend some of the places we visit which is only within 30 minutes' drive of Inverness: Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, Urquhart castle and Loch Ness. Culloden Battlefield made a huge impression. We also visited Landmark Forest Adventure Park, which was okey to have been there, but will probably not visit again if we go back to Inverness.

It’s a beautiful city, it looks European along the river. Lots of historic buildings and lots of shops with souvenirs/ traditional & modern Scottish tartan/tweed etc. Lots of pubs and cafes as well as all the usual supermarkets, department stores etc. Easy to catch the 319 bus to Loch Ness (eg. Dromnadrochit, Loch Ness Centre, Great Glen & Urquhart Castle) & back for a day trip.

We were looking for somewhere to stop off on our way back from a holiday in the north of Scotland and I remembered going to this hotel for breakfast as a child, after getting off the London - Inverness sleeper train. It has a slightly faded grandeur, with the imposing double staircase and tartan carpets. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed dinner in the Ash Restaurant and breakfast next morning was also very good. My parents' room actually looked out over one of the platforms of the railway station!

Friendly welcome from host who is a mine of information about Scotland and Inverness, from lovely anecdotes to tips for places to visit and things to do. Rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, every taste catered, be it fresh fruit salad, yogurt or porridge to a full cooked breakfast. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this cosy and comfortable guest house just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Inverness.
