I was in Irvine between work placements..I would recommend the Harbour guesthouse very highly to anyone looking for basic accommodation at a very reasonable price..The property is spotless in all areas. The location of the Harbour guesthouse is perfect..overlooking the harbour ( hence the name!) yet only a two minute walk to the train station and the rivergate shopping centre in one direction, or the beautiful expanse of sandy beach a 10 minute stroll along the harbourside.
Irvine itself is a lovely place and well worth a visit we stayed in Dreghorn and the pubs were smashing the people all friendly even to a silly Sassenach who went round the one way system in the pub (covid precautions in place sept2020) so anyone visiting after this may not be the case and certainly a visit to the Scottish maritime museum is definitely worth a look very interesting ,try the Dreghorn pub the staff were great very nice indeed
Not much in Irvine. Went to harbour but it the water was a bit murky and horrible! Few boats there. Walkways clean and a few bars there Never saw much shops in the centre that we wanted to go to. We ate in the hotel we were staying in. Probably Troon and surrounding areas are better towns to visit. The hotel was fab though
I liked the shopping centre. Not much else to do. Probably didn't see it to advantage as weather was appalling. Weatherspoons best place to eat. Right beside shopping centre. Lovely breakfasts. Staff are really lovely there.
Lovely restaurant called Niche at The Harbourside - best burger I've had for years! Cosy, vegan/veggie options, enthusiastic, pleasant staff. Was attending an amateur performance of Burns' "The Jolly Beggars" at The Portal - worth keeping an eye on for other events and there's also the Harbour Arts Centre near Niche. Harbourside a bleak affair on a cold, windy January day, but am sure sunshine will help that and lots of pleasant walking thereabouts a possibility.
Irvine is the place where my relations live so home to me. Lovely warm people and great eating places. My journey was necessary all too quick as I had to attend an aged person. But usually stay longer.
Lovely big room looking onto gardens. Food was excellent, stayed DBB for 3 nights and service also excellent. Staff very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend excellent value for money.
