Jedburgh is a nice enough small market town of around 3.5k people. We planned to use it as a base for visiting the borders. As dog owners we found only 2 places that were dog friendly when it came to serving meals. Other local towns were similar. The people were friendly, the high street offered a fair range of shops. We were able to take a small walk along side the river Jed but overall we had hoped for more walks.
Nice little town to explore, easy to get around the borders from there. In non-covid times a lot of places to eat I think - lunch in the garden of the Carters Rest was very good. Abbey was good to look around but the inner parts cordoned off for safety reasons. Tourist information centre was informative and friendly. Less friendly are the charge for using public toilets using machines that give no change, which appear in all the borders towns. Also the excess of 20 mph speed limits on A roads through the towns made travel tedious.
I asked the tourist information centre for a guide to the blue plaques around the town. This was provided and I followed it round including a visit to the gaol. The Abbey is currently closed for emergency repairs but you can still visit the exterior for a reduced price. The Mary Queen of Scots house is currently "covid closed" as too small to do a one way system. A quiet attractive town. Pleased I decided to stop off on my way home from Glasgow...
Jedburgh is a lovely town but although we were warned tourists attractions were closed we did not know that the bars and restaurants were closed or had restricted hours which meant we had to travel to other towns to eat which meant extra expense we really thought you would have warned us about that
Everyone we met, either in the street or in restaurants was really friendly. The town is immaculate with lovely flowers. Sadly non of the usual sites were open even though it was in COVID Level 1. Disappointed not to be able to visit the abbey, jail or Queen Mary’s House.
Jedburgh is a great place for a short break. There's an extensive network of walks around the town, of whatever length you could want. The Abbey is one of the most significant Norman buildings in Scotland and the high street reeks of history. I didn't use the car the whole time I was there so it would be great to visit by public transport too.

Allerton House provided a wonderful B&B experience. Our room was very spacious and well appointed. The ensuite was roomy and very clean. Beds were extremely comfortable, and the sofa by the large picture window offered a great place to read or relax. Breakfast was cooked to order and very tasty. William was a gracious host and offered helpful suggestions for dinner in Jedburgh.

Great apartment, great location, loved Scotland, easy to find, easy to park, everything that you need is nearby, the locals were so friendly, our first time in Scotland and Jedburgh is top of my list to visit again. As Scotland is such a big country I thought we can make this our first stop for a few nights each time we visit Scotland and visit deeper into this amazing country.

Excellent location, this accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It was well equipped and very homely. I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Jedburgh. Steve was an excellent host giving us clear instructions and being very helpful.
The staff were brilliant. The room was fine, comfortable and very clean. The food was excellent. Jedburgh is lovely and Capon Tree is well situated. Had my wife and I been on our own, we would have had nothing but praise for the Capon Tree. However, we had our dog with us (see below).
