Hotel in Leavenheath
Situated on 300 acres of countryside on the edge of the Dedham Vale and just off route A134, this hotel is about a 20 minute drive from Colchester and Ipswich. It was a heavenly break.. the golf course amazing… The hospitality staff very friendly but personally they could do with more “help” However I most definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing break. O! The food was excellent as well .

Hotel in Stoke-by-Nayland
Boasting wonderful views across the Stour and Box river valleys, this privately owned inn is set on a hill in the picturesque village of Stoke-by-Nayland, on the Essex and Suffolk border. Two young colleagues stayed and were very happy with their comfortable surroundings. One stated it was like being on holiday and the other said he was surprised it was only a 3*.
The village has one pub but otherwise does not have a lot to offer. However there are some very good country walks and it is idealy located for getting around Constable country and visiting Colchester and Lavenham.
The room was nice and the dinner in the evening was excellent, breakfast was not so good as no tea and coffe was brought to the table and things had run out due to a wedding, it might be a good idea to tell guests when they book that there is a wedding. Charge for the pool is very excessive.
Pretty setting especially for weddings. If you're travelling with older infirm relatives make sure you have made them aware of their requirements. Sloping roofing in some bedrooms could make moving around bed difficult.
I liked the fact that the staff members were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and airy. The bathroom was nice except for the chipped bath which did let it down a lot. The spa area was nice, but a bit on the small side. I had a pedicure which was lovely. The swimming pool was okay. Not for small toddlers as the water was deep. The Jacuzzi was a nice addition to the spa. Wasn't too keen on the location, because it took about 20 minutes drive from the train station which cost around 20 pounds each way. The food was reasonable in the hotel bar and quite tasty. Overall a nice experience, but I would say for the adults, as there is not much to do for little kids.
Just outside the pretty village of Stoke-by-Nayland, it's just a hamlet. But the locality is great for touring and exploring Constable Country and the Suffolk coast, not to mention its heritage towns. Try the Crown in Stoke by Nayland for great meals, though if you are staying at the Stoke by Nayland Hotel and Club, you probably won't need to! Golf, walking, antique-hunting all abound.
Good quality hotel and top class golf courses
