Milton Keynes (Near Leighton Buzzard)
Located in Little Brickhill, 8 miles from Milton Keynes town center, The White House features modern rooms, free parking, free Wi-Fi, and a spacious garden with outdoor seating area. Mike & Sue are terrific and accommodating hosts. Mike gave us rides to Bletchley Park and back to the train station. Our room was lovely and the bed was superb. We slept very well. Everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was wonderful. I have to mention their sweet whippet, Barney, who took a shine to my husband. Be sure to have dinner at the Italian place up the street!
Traditional market town centre, very old England. Excellent Campaign for Real Ale multiple Pub of the Year winner in town: the Black Lion. Expect a huge selection of real ales and much besides. But no food: eat before or after. Not my friend's favourite watering hole: that's the Bald Buzzard closed on Mondays.
It was a family event, not a tourist visit. Have stayed in LB before but at a different hotel, which was ok. Back roads/lanes are treacherous in heavy rain - narrow, bumpy & too many blind bends. Had a lovely meal at the Blue Orchid, Aspley Guise (not cheap but good for our double birthday celebration - son & husband). 2nd day had late family lunch with grandchildren at The Flying Fox in Leighton Buzzard. Child friendly, comfortable seating, open fire (cosy). Food very tasty. Toilets very clean.
This hotel did its job for the money we paid, we cant complain. It is very good value for money we think. Location was great, right in the middle of the town center. · This hotel did its job for the money we paid, we cant complain. However, there were just 3 downsides. 1. The sink/toilet in our room was leaking all over the floor when we got back to the room late at night. 2. The pillows and duvet, were feather stuffed which is an allergy issue for myself (this is a personal thing I suppose) 3. I dropped something down the back of the bed. When I reached down to get it, I realized it was thick with dust and clearly not been cleaned for a while.
I have relatives who live an a village close to Leighton Buzzard and I have been making short visits to this area for over forty years. It is a nice part of the English countryside and still relatively close to London the capital.
The location was good, as was the breakfast although we were charged more than what they said we would be charged in the booking form but the staff would not budge. The noise from the beer garden that supposedy closed at 10.pm but was still extremely noisy out there until past 01.30 hours on the Friday night, we were fortunate on the Saturday night that the rain came and so less people out there and staying out there for long.
It's a small town, smaller than the traffic that runs through it - but the quiet centre has a lot of nice shops, and there's the amazing little Narrow Gauge Railway which runs through the outskirts.
