Lovely park and lake in Lydney had a walk through it, nice walk from the railway station up to the Swan Hotel where the lane comes out off and I was staying at, highly praise a stay there . Plenty of local shops to visit. Was visiting an event at the Forest Oak Farm on the A48 only 2 miles from Lydney. Lovely site if you are in Camping or travel homes good site if you have dogs.
We found the people to be very friendly and welcoming. The Deangate Motel was excellent. We went to the nearest pub, the Cross Keys, for a post journey drink and were made to feel very welcome and at home. Although they didn’t serve food they were happy to explain the various options in the town and we ended up at The Swan. We had a similar experience there. In both pubs, the other customers were friendly and chatty. Lydney has limited shopping opportunities (as is the case with most smaller towns) but we found two gems, The Dressing Room and Elan. Looking forward to finding another reason to visit Lydney again
Glad I don't live there, there is a lack of pubs and restaurants, even the locals say that the bus and taxi facilities are few and far between. The Tesco and Coop stores seemed to be the main sources of community in the area.
Enjoyed being able to walk to Taurus Crafts and Krazy Golf from the accommodation, and although a longer walk all round Lydney and to the harbour (marina). Mallards Pike was special too, and we enjoyed the Sculpure Trail at Beechenhurst - although directions to both weren't easy. The sat nav left us high and dry once we got to the correct postcode - with no sign of the place. Could do with a few more signposts from the roads. I would avoid single track roads to find particular pubs if I were able another time.
Lydney is central or close to some great activities for all ages and almost embedded in the stunning Forest of Deane! If you want a peaceful and tree-filled stay, this area is amazing! The town itself appears sleepy, the people are very helpful and importantly there is a large Tesco! I love this area 😁 It's worth visiting Lydney Harbour for a super view across the Severn Estuary - take a picnic. Our favourite place to eat is The Globe.
Lydney is a nice little town whose location is an ideal base for exploring the forest of dean and surrounding area. The walk along the estuary from Lydney harbour is beautiful plus they have just started the regeneration of the harbour.

We stayed in a twin room with private bathroom opposite (robes and slippers were provided). Room was comfortable and clean. Nice biscuits and tea facilities. Breakfast was great with plenty to eat. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The Swan was easy to find and parking out back was fine. There is a separate side entrance for guests so you don't have to walk through the pub. Being on a main road you do get traffic noise but the price of the stay and breakfast compensates for that. Overall a comfortable and pleasant stay.
It's a wonderful guesthouse in Aylburton, only a stones throw away from Lydney and Chepstow and everywhere you want to in the Forest of Dean is a short drive away. The room was comfortable, the dinner and breakfast excellent and the pub/restaurant is excellent. Ian and Carole are very lovely and accomodated everything we needed. We'll definitely be exploring the Forest Of Dean again.

Exactly what a low budget hotel should be, with the interesting mix of Ghurka end western life and cuisine.
