Just 20 minutes’ drive from Monmouth, Deangate Motel offers boutique bedrooms and generous continental breakfasts. On check in the receptionist was very efficient. The room was very big . Clean and Comfortable. Car was parked straight outside which was a bonus.
Just 10 minutes’ drive from the unspoiled beauty of the Forest of Dean, The Millingbrook Lodge offers individually styled rooms, free Wi-Fi and free parking. The food was heavenly - exceptional service and just a really lovely place to stay. Definitely will be staying again! Already raved how good it is to my family and friends.
Located in Lydney, Woolaston Inn provides free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a restaurant, a bar and a garden. A Full English/Irish breakfast is available daily at the bed and breakfast. Loved everything, what a amazing, lovely place and family owned place
Located in Lydney in the Gloucestershire region, Rodley Manor Retreat, Bloemuns is a 4-star property boasting free WiFi. The accommodations is 28 mi from Newport. house was self catering although you could do some walks from house you needed a car to get to places very quite which we loved loved the court yard to sit in .
Glad I don't live there, there is a lack of pubs and restaurants, even the locals say that the bus and taxi facilities are few and far between. The Tesco and Coop stores seemed to be the main sources of community in the area.
Enjoyed being able to walk to Taurus Crafts and Krazy Golf from the accommodation, and although a longer walk all round Lydney and to the harbour (marina). Mallards Pike was special too, and we enjoyed the Sculpure Trail at Beechenhurst - although directions to both weren't easy. The sat nav left us high and dry once we got to the correct postcode - with no sign of the place. Could do with a few more signposts from the roads. I would avoid single track roads to find particular pubs if I were able another time.
Lydney is central or close to some great activities for all ages and almost embedded in the stunning Forest of Deane! If you want a peaceful and tree-filled stay, this area is amazing! The town itself appears sleepy, the people are very helpful and importantly there is a large Tesco! I love this area 😁 It's worth visiting Lydney Harbour for a super view across the Severn Estuary - take a picnic. Our favourite place to eat is The Globe.
Lydney is a nice little town whose location is an ideal base for exploring the forest of dean and surrounding area. The walk along the estuary from Lydney harbour is beautiful plus they have just started the regeneration of the harbour.
It's my husband's home town and I stay whenever the family doesn't have room. I recommend Clearwell caves, the Taurus centre, Lydney steam Heritage Centre, of course Symonds Yat, and if your long-distance Walker like me or a runner like my husband. Drive backup to Chepstow park the car car. I usually stop at the B&Q car park and walk or run across the Old Severn Bridge and back. Restaurants of course the Ugly Duckling at the Swan, there's a new Thai restaurant as of December 2019 and course of 3 miles out of town theres the Gurkha. and if you're feeling very adventurous , the zip wire at the National dive centre just before you arrive in Chepstow, you can either zip on your own or with a friend.
Quite a sad little town with limited amenities. We were there in the winter when the steam railways does not run so it may be better in the summer. There seem to be plans to improve the tourist offer at Lydney Harbour and if this takes off it may give the place a lift. A descent base for exploring the Forest of Dean.
