We had a lovely break here and sitting outside in the grounds having a drink was lovely. Social distancing measures worked well. The Laura Ashley tea room was beautiful and the tea very nice. The only things which spoiled it slightly was the fact that reception staff seemed very stressed and the room wasn’t given any bottled water and the milk, tea and coffee were not enough for the two days. Nobody was allowed in to service the room due to COVID which I understand but in which case adequate supplies should have been left. Also we only had two paper cups for hot drinks which we had to keep washing out in the bathroom.
Great for business and relaxation, close to London, without the London prices and city buzz, close to Heathorw without the noise. Lovely scenic spots by the river Thames, lovely towncentre. Biggest Italian and South African importants with retail outlets. Close to Windsor, Henley and Marlow.
Enjoyed a walk along the Thames Path to Boulters Lock, then over the footbridge to and around Ray Mead Island and over the new footbridge to new estate at Taplow and round over the main road bridge back to the hotel
Take the no.4 bust from Heathrow Central Bus Station direct to Maidenhead town centre. If you have the time to wait for it, it is so much easier than changing trains and tubes and buses. The bus is generally every 30 mins, and often 5 or 10 mins late.
Maidenhead is a good base for exploring East Berkshire with Cliveden, White Waltham, Henley-on-Thames and Windsor all close by. It has a really good Heritage Centre, well worth a visit and I like the town centre which is modern, has plenty of parking and a good variety of shops, cafes and restaurants and a really good cinema and gyms.
Maidenhead these days is basically a building site; whole blocks have been demolished and many high street shops are empty and boarded. Really wouldn't go there unless you have to, it has absolutely nothing to recommend it.
