We were at Cliveden and Legoland in the daytimes and it's perfectly located for both of those, so we only experienced the evening. But there was a great choice of places to eat and lots of shops and supermarkets for any last minute items.
The promenade area is very pleasant and would have liked to spend more time to look around. Convenient to get to Windsor. The Orchid is a great Thai restaurant near the Maidenhead promenade with high quality dishes and good service. Not impressed with the shopping centre area. The cruise from Maidenhead to Windsor was very scenic and relaxing.
Shopping centre average , lots of coffee shops . Minutes from Downy marsh for walking , nature. Car parking little expensive. One way system means cannot always turn where needed. People friendly .
Maidenhead is going through a re-planning term which is taking years to coincide with the opening of cross-rail. Most of the decent bars and restaurants have closed and will never re open. This is to make way for a new shopping type area which was passed eight years ago but put on hold so now local people are without services for indefinite period although many office blocks and a vast area of new blocks of flats for incomers who will have no infrastructure to come to such as decent shops.
Historic Cliveden is a must see!! Steeped in history Nancy Astor the first female PM to sit in the Commons loved here Cliveden is perhaps most notable for its connection to The Scandal on the early 60's Stephen Ward, Bill Astor John Profumo et al. The grounds are breathtaking and one could easily spend an entire day there! You can bring your own picnic and there are a couple of cafes and one restaurant on site- super for children too
Great location just west of Heathrow, very convenient to the English countryside as well as many tourist sites, I.E. Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Stonehenge, and quaint villages such as Marlow and Henley. Need a car. Convenient short walk to train station with direct link into London Paddington.
“Indian Restaurant in hotel was very popular.”
“Good car park easy to get to just off motorway. Easy to get to Windsor Reading High Wycombe and London. Room was very good and quiet. Swimming pool spa pool sauna steam room and gym. Taxis easy to get and reasonable cost.”
“staff very friendly and helpful really lovely, hotel super , would recommend it to friends.”
“Great staff. Comfortable bed with crisp clean fresh linen and towels. Great breakfast. Obviously for the price there are compromises like the shower head dribbling because it needed a descale and the outside area of the bar really needing a good makeover but on the whole great value and we are already planning on returning to this hotel.”
“a lovely stay in a beautiful hotel in a gorgeous location, delightful hosts!”
“The hotel has both a restaurant and a pub. The pub has a large patio of tables that looks directly onto the Thames River and boats and geese and swans going past.”
“It was getting a little worn looking and they had no elevator .”
“The room was clean although a little small. I believe they do have other bigger rooms. Which we were unaware of when we booked. But were full wen we arrived. The location by the OurThames River is beautiful.”
“Very comfortable and excellent friendly service.”
