The area is biker heaven. Well surfaced open roads through fabulous scenery with practically no traffic. Very pretty town, with an interesting history. Lots of pubs and restaurants to choose from. I like the Star Hotel in particular for food and a drink. A hidden gem. I will be back, hopefully when it isn't so dreich :-)
Moffat is a lovely little market town. Some great pubs and restaurants. We at at the Black Bull (the food was delicious!) This is one of the pubs where Burns used to drink and there is a great atmosphere! Some fantastic scenery in the local area - we enjoyed walking around the town as well as taking a trip to the Grey Mares Tail waterfall. We also visted the Forest of Ae where there are some excellent mountain biking trails. We could have climbed more hills and enjoyed more around Moffat but our plan was to explore as much of Dumfries and Galloway as possible. We had not realised how much driving this would involve - we could easily have spent the week in and around Moffat itself.
Ruth is very welcoming, you are offered a drink when you arrive. The place is spotlessly clean. I loved the attractive cushions on the bed, especially the beautifully embroidered one. The breakfast was delicious. There are plenty of lovely places to eat and drink in Moffat. The scenery around Moffat is spectacular, which makes it a superb place to stay for going walking or simply exploring. Ruth can't do enough for you, she even provided ice cold water for me to take my many anti convulsant drugs. thank you so much, Ruth, for a most enjoyable stay. 'til next time.
Moffat for us was ideal stopover driving North. We enjoyed a walk down a nearby river but didn't to explore the area. It's a charming little town. I chose an Indian restaurant called spice India because it did a gluten free menu. It was pretty horrible don't eat there is my advice.
very nice little place, nice variety of local shops and businesses, looks very well presented and clean everywhere. friendly locals, good amount of restaurants and cafes and pubs serving good food. surrounded by beautiful views and walking is very popular there.
Good selection of B&Bs. Conveniently situated off M74 for travellers from England and Wales heading North or heading south from Northern Scotland. Evening places to eat (although in current Covid climate book ahead?) Small attractive place easy to navigate with several shops.
Moffat
The location was close to downtown and the room offered amazing views to downtown and the surrounding country side; parking was provided. The hosts thought of everything and I mean everything. The breakfast was amazing and we were able to chat with the hosts who offered insight into the location. The town of Moffat was vibrant and had many places to shop/explore/dine. If you have the chance, do stay here. The only drawback is that only 1 room is available.
