Just magical. Quite a perfect room in a perfect setting. Lovely breakfast. Stunning really. Even the gardener was fantastic to talk to. Feed cows, pet horses, have a barn cat follow you around. Really stylish room. Fresh and original. No TV is a good thing!

The Chequers Hotel, hotel in Newbury

In the heart of Newbury’s town center, only 5 minutes from junction 13 of the M4 motorway, this traditional 18th century coaching inn offers en suite accommodations.

We have stayed at The Chequers Hotel many times and have always found it clean and comfortable, and the staff are generally very friendly. It's good value and very convenient, being situated at the northern end of the town centre.

We went to visit High Clere House. This was an interesting visit. If you are coming from a distance, I would book in advance. We also wanted to visit the Sandham Memorial Chapel. This is an extremely moving experience. Check opening times

Newbury is lovely with lots of period places to visit nearby. Beautiful countryside, lovely golf course, Nice small town with a retail park near by also. Lots of places to eat Having your own vehicle would make the stay easier, i did not use public transport but there appears to be lots of it.

I was in Newbury for work at the local showground which was a short 10min drive. In the evenings we had the pleasure of visiting the local pubs and restaurants of which there are plenty for all tastes and budgets (Italian, That, English, Turkish, Spanish etc) including take always too. You can stroll along the river, take in the theatre or shopping areas, ideal for a weekend trip with a partner or friends as the racecourse is also close by.

Small market town that has essential shopping and even a family owned department store. There are many walks along the canal or small river that runs around the town. Visit Highclere ( the home of Downton Abbey) or just chill out in the surrounding countryside.

Room was very spacious and well furnished. Bed was very comfortable. Room had a sofa as well with bath robes and slippers, plus other useful items. Breakfast is fresh cooked and had reasonable choices. Bar (and staff) was good and efficient. Nice service. I like the hotel in general and for the price it was more than fine. It's very convenient for the town centre and theatre and is relatively quiet.

Breakfast was superb so was evening meal. Hannah at the bar and breakfast was brilliant and so helpful and always wore a mask and stood out from the rest. All the staff were great and very helpful just Hannah went that little bit extra. The hotel was great value for money, we paid for half board and it was really worth it. We will definitely stay again, probably the next time Newbury races are on.

The staff are so friendly and the food was excellent - it's a beautiful setting so close to the Watermill Theatre and Newbury. We were doing two private painting classes with the lovely local and very talented artist - Gail Davis (www.artgaildavid.com) and the hotel was so handy for that.

This is a fabulous hotel and my go-to when travelling to Newbury with work. Every little detail is carefully thought out. The rooms, albeit on the small side, are truly beautiful and the beds are probably THE most comfortable hotel beds I've ever come across. Great staff too!
