North Weald is a pleasant area as a base for further exploration of this part of Essex. It is also close to public transport services into London. However, if you are thinking of staying here, avoid the Phoenix Hotel at all costs!!
this hotel is on a dark road, and they dont seem to want to use the external lighting either. dirty mug in room no staff on arrival - seemed annoyed and confused when i later found a staff member, like why had i get a key if there was no staff there, did i get it myself? very poor english. no food on site. toilet seat fell off when i lifted the lid. 7 vehicles in the carpark, but i was put in the disabled room. disabled assistance pull cord tied up around the shower rail out of reach. as there was no food went to harvester and had a n 8oz sirloin gristle. was given 20% off, so paid £14 for a lemonade and salad! great
A great place with lots of history and places of interest to visit. A fair spread of different restaurants/pubs featuring all types of cuisine. Easy road and rail access to central London and Stanstead Airport. In the heart of Epping Forest, with lots of walking, cycling and horse and pony riding.
The hotel was easy to find, surrounded by green fields. Well light reception area, friendly and polite reception staff. Room was a good size, clean and comfortable A Harvester Restaurant was a short distance from hotel, which served good food
