Okehampton
YHA Okehampton is a converted old Victorian goods shed. Guests have use of a self-catering kitchen, free on site parking, free WIFI, TV lounge and games room with table tennis and pool tables. Because its a hostel, I cannot complaint about the facilities. May be these comments are common across all hostels. But just wanted to let other people know... there is no tea or coffee making facility in your room. The bunk beds are very small... the bathrooms are common for like 3-4 rooms. You can make your tea and have your food in the dining room. but you have to clean all your dishes (its good in a way...) :)...

Well linked to the M5, this 15th-century manor house stands in 4 acres of gardens, with glorious countryside views and a rich history. Collaven Manor is in the North West of Dartmoor. It was a country hotel that catered to guests exploring the Dartmoor. It was big enough to provide excellent quality bu retained quiet comfort and personal service. Breakfasts were included and made to order and diners provided on request. All foods were prepared with skill with portions to meet ones appetite. If you needed something extra it was usually available. Rooms were large, comfortable and clean with views of the surrounding countryside. A great weekend getaway or excellent for a tourist who wants a location with proximity to the National Dartmoor Park.

Okehampton
Featuring free WiFi, Middletown Farmhouse B&B offers accommodations in the picturesque village of Sampford Courtenay, 5 mi from Okehampton. Free private parking is available on site. This beautiful old thatched farmhouse is very homely and clean. The owners, Nicky and Kevin, are so friendly and helpful and provide everything within their power to make your stay a delightful one. The room (double bed) was an ample size and bed extremely comfy. The selection for breakfast was extensive (mostly homemade or local) and the cooked breakfast was exquisite. Upon request, Nicky will prepare a picnic lunch, which is a great added bonus. The village around Middletown Farmhouse is a hidden gem in the middle of Devon, with many thatched houses dating back to the early 1500's, off the main road so it remains untouched. Highly recommended.
Okehampton is ideally situated to access Simmons Park, Dartmoor and many pleasant villages, such as Sticklepath, located nearby that are accessible by car or 6 and 6A buses which also go to the Bude resort.
Okehampton is a nice little town. There are some interesting shops, plenty of pubs and a few nice restaurants. The castle is worth a visit, as is the museum of dartmoor life. It is well situated to visit Dartmoor and even pop down the road to Cornwall.
My visit to Okehampton was extremely short... a few hours one evening and a few hours the following morning. It was a beautiful town for a walk. There were several small shops and a small river or stream that flowed the central part of town. I would like to come back and spend more time in Okehampton and in the region.
The super duper comfy superking bed was fantastic at the Wetherspoons. Okehampton is a small town with some local shops, a museum, and heritage railway station. Just lovely and near to Dartmoor and is a good stop over on way to Cornwall to break up the journey. Good selection of pubs where we found them very friendly and welcoming.
a very run down town with very few decent shops although there was a waitrose with good carpark. Plenty of little cafes and Fish and chippies, but we couldn't find a decent restaurant so went further affield. Considering it's on the edge of Dartmoor, no outdoor clothing outlets at all that we could find On the plus sid,e Simms park (dog friendly) is huge and beautifull with plenty of meandering footpaths together with ornamental gardens and water features, plus a large play area for childeren There is a lovely little train ride to Mendon Reservoir, as well as a nice partly wooded walk to Okehampton castle.
Beautiful country side, historic castle and buildings, quaint shops and market, but I am biased as lived here for a few years as a lad. Also lovely villages about the area such as Sampford Coutenay, which has an excellent pub, the New Inn.
