Located within just a short walk away Orford Castle, in the heart of tranquil village of Orford, the Crown and Castle offers highly rated restaurant with 21 bedrooms with attached bathroom. In 2018. Very nice staff with a good warm room best steak I have had for a few years
We really liked the castle, would have loved to get out to the lighthouse, but we were there off season. Punnets was great, some really lovely gifts, and delicious oysters. Enjoyed a nice pint of Adnams in the Jolly Sailor, which was a lovely friendly pub.
A beautiful picturesque village with lots of lovely river walks, lanes to wander down, quaint cottages, amazing river views and of course the castle. Peaceful yet enough to keep your interest. Friendly locals. Great coffee shop/bakery (Pump Street Bakery), and village store, 2 pubs serving good food (dog friendly) and much more! Easy to get to surrounding areas such as Aldeburgh, Woodbridge, Southwold etc for longer stays.
Very different but equally noteworthy attractions: - Orford Castle is very well-preserved; the exhibition is very informative - The Ness is another must-see; the place looks as if is had been build by aliens; in fact, it's a fairly recent cold-war research facility which is dilapidated enough to inspire supernatural awe - My third vote goes to the local smokery which sells its products in a little shop near the harbour; a must-visit place which offers a lot of must-buy stuff
The bakery does the best sourdough bread in the UK (world? - we have been to San Francisco). Plenty to see and do for such a small location. Ferry trips every day in the summer across to Orford Ness (NT) which is a day well spent. Church, castle, quay, renowned smokery for all sorts of smoked foods. Walks all around in the countryside. Leisure cruises up and down the river.
Beautiful, tranquil little village with a stunning castle full of history. We had a wonderful meal at the Kings Head Inn. The people of Orford are clearly proud of their village and were so friendly. We could have stayed much longer!
Fascinatingly destination. From castle to church to estuary to countryside - well worth a visit. Don't tell too many people about it .... It's that good. Crown & Castle is brill for accommodation and food.
