It's a lovely small town with a superb castle to visit, right next door to the millpond and river where otters are a regular sight. Pleasant eateries in the town. Very pleasant walks in the vicinity which are ideal for everyone.
castle is impressive...walk around the exterior is public park along water front. The town has a nice walking path along water front complete with wall and historic structures. Take the coastal shuttle bus to Pembrokeshire coastal path and enjoy a scenic tour. Take the train to Tenby.
Great service and Great food. Excellent internet access and sat tv. Sally was wonderful and made it an enjoyable stay. All of staff were most helpful and excellent including Ryan, Josh, Kyle, Jodi, Josie & Lou. Great town to walk around in and to visit Pembroke Castle.
Pembroke is a lovely town, the castle is wonderful, full of significant history about the beginning of the Tudor dynasty. The town centre is quaint with some nice shops. It's close to coastline of Pembrockshire and this is spectacular, however you will be charged five pounds to park at Whitesands beach, which we thought was a ripe of. We also went to St David's which has the smallest cathedral in England, This is also a lovely old township. Tenby is really nice and is a walled town, the beach was beautiful, and when the tide is out you can walk along the very wide beach front. There are lots of restaurants as well. In all a lovely area to visit. Getting around is easy if you have a car. But there are buses and taxis.
Pembroke itself is just waiting for someone to revitalise it. It has the most amazing castle and history but very little else . The architecture in the High Street captures the history of the town but apart from coffee shops and pubs there are no shops of interest.I understand there is a proposal for a new complex below the castle but I feel all this will do is separate it from the rest of what could be a charming place to visit. There is endless traffic that pounds it's way from Pembroke Dock through the heart of the town . The place badly needs a bypass as it is difficult to cross the road and if you are lucky to park on the side of the street, almost impossible at certain times of the day to pull out again.Apart from all this negativity I will still visit again as there is a certain charm to the place and a great place to walk around and discover all it's nooks and crannies. A place to ponder is in the secret garden behind the church where you can look over the water. And, the Castle is a must, spectacular.
The museum in the Town Hall is well worth a visit. Lovely walks around the mill pond and castle. Good location for visiting other towns in the area. The Pembrokeshire coast is glorious especially in good weather.
