Set in Peterlee, 21 mi from Middlesbrough, Tithe Barn Cottages offers a garden and free WiFi. Kathryn and her family were extremely helpful, and always happy to help/answer questions. We stayed in their absolutely stunning cottage for 4 nights in with our golden retriever. Every little detail was carefully thought out to make you feel like you were in a home away from home. The free range eggs were also delicious! There were two local dog-friendly pubs we visited (The Half Moon and The Stapylton Arms) that did really good food and everyone was so friendly!
Located just 3 miles from Peterlee, Hardwicke Hall Manor Hotel offers a bar and restaurant. This traditional manor house is also just 6 miles from Hartlepool and Seaham is a 20-minute drive away. Lovely place to stay, great food and friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone
We stayed at tbe Bell while our bungalow was being modernised . We stayed because it was quite near but not the closest of places but we chose well . It was clean comfortable and freindly . Durham city is wonderful . Dalton park shopping is a must . A fresh brisk walk along the beech or local parks clears tbe cobwebs
Peterlee which is nearby is a town that looks to be struggling economically. Saturday morning in the shopping area was quite busy but the range of shops indicates it to be a less affluent place. People I spoke to were lovely and helpful.
When I checked in, the room was very cold. I asked the staff to turn up the heating but after a few hours nothing changed and still cold. When I spoke to the reception staff again she brought the manager to check the room radiator. She offered me to change the B&B if I was not happy at 9:30 pm!!! I requested her to bring a heater but she didn't. It was my worst experience ever and I couldn't sleep that freezing night at all. Also the single room size was too small to move around. The only positive thing was breakfast.
I stayed at Peterlee for a appointment in Houghton Le Spring, I arrived by hire car and spent the evening in the guest house, I found Peterlee easy to navigate and the locals that I met were really nice and friendly. I didn't have the opportunity to see much of the town, but found it close to places that would be interesting to visit had I had more time. I found it easy to visit friends in Beamish and to travel to my appointment on the Sunday. It is close to Durham for the Cathedral and shopping and I enjoyed my brief visit.
I only stayed for B&B to attend a funeral and visit friends at Seaham (after 1st night); and visited the shopping mall (after 2nd night) to buy 'Stotties' at Greggs to take home and a sandwich for lunch. Time spent in Peterlee approx. 90 minutes. A suitable property as base to explore Co.Durham.
Goodness .. beautiful place .. I was treated as family
