Featuring a private pool and garden views, West Cottage, Cerne Abbas Lane is located in Piddletrenthide, 8.1 mi from Dorchester. Free WiFi is available. Brilliant location in the Dorset Downs. Lovely character property with modern conveniences. Large mature garden with a trampoline and a slide which entertained my toddler. We liked the happy little dog too.
We chose the area because of its associations with Thomas Hardy; the cottage where he was born, the church where he was baptised, sang in the choir and where his heart is buried (possibly inside a cat.) Dining in both pubs in the amazingly stretched out village, The Thimble and The Piddle Inn, also the Royal Oak in Cerne Abbas. You need a car to get around as there's no bus, apparently. Dorchester is the nearest town and the Cerne Abbas Giant is only about 3 miles away. Jurassic Coast and dinosaus along with Durdle Door attract crowds.
I loved it. Great hospitality, beautiful location, spotlessly clean, a lovely couple running it. Can't fault it and wouldn't dream of trying. I needed a quiet bolthole and a base for excursions into the gorgeous countryside. I came in May which was a perfect time to see Dorset in all its green glory, and this country house retreat fit my needs perfectly. You can use it a a B&B but in truth it's more like a small, well-run hotel. Good food, a great welcome, kind people who are serious about the quality of what they offer. Excellent.
A small village near to Dorcheste, quiet rural location. We ate in a pub in the next village which was very good. There are lots of things to do nearby, as long as you can drag yourself away from the relaxed atmosphere in the house.
A “one road” village with two to three pubs along the stretch. Friendly people, potentially nice road to walk dog but vehicles often go too fast (particularly the agricultural ones) and pavements are lacking in places - so have to walk in the road shared with the incoming vehicles. Would suggest traffic-calming needed, especially since there is a primary school in the village. 20 mph max in that stretch would be great. A good location to get to other places easily during our 3 night stay.
Piddletrenthide is a lovely country location which is close too Thomas Hardy's cottage, also near too lulworth cove and curdle door great location. We had our meals at south house retreat with were Delicious.
Beautiful village in the quite countyside, freindly people and plenty of walks with or without yr dog. 10min away from Dorechester the food is very good in a cosy restaurant or in the bar. Dine with yr dog in the bar no problem.
