With parts of the building dating back 700 years, this former coaching inn stands on the market square in the ancient city of Ripon, at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. Very pleased with room , complimentary bottles of water provided, great value for money
Offering good Yorkshire food, real ale, free parking, log fires and traditional hospitality, the Ripon Spa Hotel is within easy walking distance of Ripon city center, 20 minutes from Harrogate. I grew up in Ripon in the 1950s and 1960s. The Spa Hotel always had a special cachet but I had never set foot in it until this trip late March (sadly, to attend a funeral). The staff were very helpful, my room looked over the beautiful hotel grounds behind the building and the price was very reasonable. The included breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Lobby, as noted by another reviewer, is a bit worn so maybe due for a Reno but then the price goes up!! No complaints. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

New, clean and stylish rooms in a beautiful old building. The rooms are so pretty and have everything you need from tea, coffee and cookies to hairdryer and toiletries. Breakfast is a short walk across the courtyard to a cute breakfast room. Excellent food and many options. We enjoyed a beautiful walk in the immediate area. Ripon is a short drive away. Located in Ripon, just 2 miles from Lightwater Valley Theme Park, Riverview Apartment has accommodations with a garden and free WiFi. Lovely apartment, we shall return! Warm as toast, beds super-comfy. Every room has been decorated and furnished thoughtfully and very tastefully. Flight of stone steps up to the apartment so not suitable for someone who has mobility issues. Host and hostess utterly charming. Village shop and post office within a short walk. Two world-class pubs. Lovely scenery. Peace and quiet except for occasional 4x4 bombing along. What more could you want? The two bedrooms are interconnecting which is useful for young children I would have thought (separated by open and close doors for privacy though)!

A pretty cathedral town with plenty of places for lunch, tea or dinner. Apparently shopping is better at Harrogate but Market day on Thursday was nice. Go to the town square at 9pm any night of the year to witness the Wakeman blowing a horn 4 times and giving a short talk about the origins of this tradition.
Pretty Yorkshire city with a beautiful cathedral that's well worth a visit. If you're there in an evening, go to the square, in front of the town hall to see the wakeman at 9:00pm. He blows the horn, then gives a short very interesting talk about the tradition.
Never been to Ripon before, it was my first time, although my partner had been there before. Well worth seeing the Hornblower at 9pm at the square, stay awhile and the Hornblower will give you some history.
We were located in the countryside outside Rippon and only went through the town once but looked very pretty. The countryside in and around Harrogate is stunning with lots of interesting things to do and see, with or without young children and dogs.
Although Ripon could do with some upgrading by the local council spending some money on it there are still some reasonable pubs and small restaurants available and the cathedral is worth a visit. Also very near to other towns and attractions in the area.
Ripon is one of my favourite places. Its cathedral is magnificent and its old fashioned feel with higgedly piggedly streets, friendly people is a must. Nearby is Fountains Abbey which is astounding. Love it. Plenty of good places to eat. Royal Oak a great place to stay.

A quirky, compact accommodation, which is a 10 min walk into Ripon. Judith, our hostess, was very friendly and helpful, and made us feel quite at home, especially with the lovely borders biscuits and bottle of milk to start us off. Plenty to see and do in Ripon and surrounding areas including Fountains Abbey and the Himalayan Gardens. Recommended for a relaxed break away from it all.

Breakfast was fine, well cooked, hot and plentiful and staff at breakfast were well dressed, pleasant and clean. Not a bad location, just a few minutes walk into Ripon but info regarding a more pleasant walk through the gardens into the park (rather than having to dodge traffic on the main road outside) would have been helpful. Reception staff were in the main helpful and friendly.

David was SO friendly, the room was superb, would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone! I just wish dinner was served later than 8pm because I'm sure it would've been delicious. But that's our fault for arriving so late!
