The place was fine but you have to change the website to show the real address. It is outrageous to give a false address. The lady in the pub said that they have a Rugely postcode. To HELL with that. What customers need is a road and house-number in ARMITAGE!
The inn wasn't actually in rugeley but a charming Village nearby. I was there to meet up with my nephew and his family who live in Buenos Aires, plus another niece who was just back from northern Syria working for Medicin Sans Frontiers, so with UK based family members it was a fabulous time, and my base at the Olde Peculiar was just right.
Obviously an old mining town like the rest of the mining towns trying to recover. Everyone we met were very friendly and it is the perfect place to stay overnight if you are going to the NEC as further down the road accommodation is double the price and it is 20 minutes drive from NEC
Was a disappointment for right from the beginning that's the hotel is really bad and we couldn't find anywhere decent to have something to eat and it'll bring a small pug playing how many £16, for a meal that wasn't worth £5 and the hotel that we had did not provide any food or drink or anything left High and Dry
Rugeley is on the edge of Cannock Chase, the smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in mainland Britain: ideal for walking, mountain biking, horse-riding and watching nature (including six species of deer). It's also on the Trent and Mersey Canal, which links the Midlands with the North West and provides good boating and walking. The Leisure Centre includes a swimming pool and gym. Historic Buildings include St Augustine's church Rugeley and St Michael's church Brereton, the latter being given its current form by Sir G G Scott. Iron-age Castle Ring is nearby in the Cannock Chase AONB. The National Trust's Shugborough Hall is also nearby. There are fine restaurants, cafés, shops and pubs. Ravenhill Park, Brereton, with its paddling pool (in summer) and play area is popular with young children. Rugeley has direct rail connections with many destinations, including London and Birmingham.
Was bigger than I expected. We went into the Crown Hotel which wasadvertising food, a carvery etc. When we went in we were reluctanatly offered Pie and Mash or fish and chips. We walked out and went to the Red Lion at the other side of the hotel and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced.
