As a local I enjoy spending time at the Talbot in settle, the food is good as is the drink and beer garden. We love going to the knights table in stainforth and is the best place around here. Booking isn't always necessary but worth it over disappointment. There are lots of lovely shops. I would recommend car & kitchen that has something for everyone and also the house that jack built. Other than that, the walking locally is a sight to behold, lovely routes for all walkers and breathtaking scenery. What's not to love about settle?!
Settle is packed at weekends and during the summer with walkers, hikers, runners, cyclists and motorcycles. There are good car parks but the town is very busy. It is a great centre to explore the Yorkshire Dales, but there are quieter locations.
Right at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Good train services including the iconic Settle-Carlisle line and main line connections. Hill walking from the town, or via train or bus from nearby locations. Excellent Italian restaurant in town square - be sure to book early!
Great market town for exploring the Dales. Railway links you to footpaths and other towns but Settle has plenty of good eating places, interesting one-off shops and a lively market on Tuesdays. Footpaths, bike trails, river walks all on the doorstep with the three peaks nearby for more serious walkers.
We stayed in Settle as we were doing a bit of walking in Malham. It was not too far away. We visited Settle for our tea and had fish and chips. The service at the little place near the centre was very good and you got a very generous portion. The fish was really fresh. We visited Settle again, the next morning before we went walking again. It was market day and we bought some produce to take home.
The town of Settle is very pretty and the people are so friendly. There are beautiful walks near town. The train station is very accessible and is very scenic. I stopped at Ribblehead to see the Ribblehead Viaduct. It is a short walk from the railway station. The volunteers at Ribblehead railway station are very friendly and knowledgable. I took the railway up to Appleby and was pleasantly surprised by the little town, complete with castle. As of April 2016 the railway operates a bus from Appleby to Carlisle because of a landslide. There are two buses that can be taken from the Appleby railway station; the one goes directly to Carlisle with no stops and the other stops at or near the railway stations in between. Both were enjoyable. The railway staff are very helpful in making the transition. Ice cream was available for purchase on the train and for the two days I rode on the train everyone was overawed by the scenery. The Yorkshire Dales were a highlight of my trip.

“Very friendly staff and great service. Food was good and plenty of it especially breakfast - enough to keep you going all day. We took our dog and she was even spoilt - waitress brought her a leftover sausage for breakfast. Would definitely stay again if in the area.”
“A very warm welcome from the owners Richard and Trish, a comfortable, well heated room with huge separate bathroom with bath and shower. Outstanding breakfast - lots of choice, locally sourced food and fresh bread. Garden surrounded by trees with a view out to the hills of the Yorkshire Dales National Park”
