Located just 5 miles from Durham Cathedral, The Tree House has accommodations in Durham with a restaurant, a bar, as well as a 24-hour front desk. The Tree House is a wonderful cosy apartment. We had a very comfortable stay. All of us, including our terrier, were given a very warm welcome by the owner Murrie. The Green Tree pub is a lovely place to have a drink and a meal, then very convenient to just climb the stairs to the apartment! We would definitely book again.
Old Hall Cottage No 2 is set in Byers Green and offers a garden and barbecue facilities. The property is 26 mi from Middlesbrough, and complimentary private parking is offered. There was nothing not to like. The property was brilliant, great location, everything you could possibly need was provided for.
In scenic Croxdale, the Honest Lawyer Hotel is a pet-friendly hotel just 5 minutes’ drive from Durham center. The room was great for my needs. The bed was small if sharing but overall the room was great and spacious. The room had everything I needed. Went over to the restaurant for food in the evening, the food was really nice. I wouldn't hesitate to go back here again.
Just off exit 61 from the A1M highway, The Old Mill is a traditional English Inn offering excellent food all day and private bedrooms. Durham is just 5 miles away. Food and service was excellent. Had the monkfish wrapped in pancetta and it was top quality. Staff always happy to serve and go above and beyond for their customers.
Park Head Country Hotel and Restaurant is located in the heart of County Durham and offers a warm, friendly welcome and free Wi-Fi in public areas and guestrooms. Breakfast was tasty and was obviously quality produce. Location was smashing, provision for parking being secure overnight, easy to pop into Bishop Auckland and we also used the bus which runs frequently with the stop being literally 2 mins from Hotel.
Spennymoor and local area were very nice - better than expected. Bishop Auckland park very nice as was the riverside wildflower meadow at Willington. Durham, not far away is excellent - one of the few cities to have got better over the years.
Frog and Ferret, excellent pub. Fish and Chips from locally chippy, moderately good. The Grand Electric Hall, Wetherspoon's, lovely building but worst didn't care staff I've ever encountered in a Spoons.
Called into the town centre, like most towns nowadays it’s a bit run down, but still lots of individual shops open and also very clean and Free Car Parking, what a wonderful surprise. 👍😊. Definitely would call in again when in the area.
Do not book a standard double. They are tired, dirty and it defintiely feels like you are being put in a second rate room I would chose Travel Lodge over this place if you are just there for a bed for the night. Breakfast was very disapointing having been told when we were shown our table that the menu was not available and it was a buffet style instead. The cooked stuff was OK but there was no choice of eggs as advertised, or fish or porridge. I would say their advertising on-line details are misleading if providing a buffet is an option to replace a full menu without a discount.
A lovely bit of luxury and pampering for a long weekend. Staff so friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Even the weather smiled on us! Watching the deer at breakfast was quite magical.
The staff could not have been more helpful. I would not recommend for a hectic visit, more for couples wanting a get away from it all. It is a quite isolated. You do need a car. The grounds were magnificent though
