As I had nit visited Sunderland for many years and was there to put my husbands ashes in his mother's grave this does not really apply to me.
In the town centre of course I found many things had changed but some sites were still familiar. There were not many good restaurants to choose for an evening meal.

We had a pleasant stay at Sunderland Hotel.
We had a pleasant stay at Sunderland Hotel. It’s a nice, affordable hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Their prices are also very competitive. I enjoyed a nice shower in very clean facilities. I would definitely stay again in future. It has many local shops within walking distance too. The location is great.

We did not go into Sunderland.
We did not go into Sunderland. Seaburn was sufficient for the short stay that we had. A few nice restaurants. We visited the Tram Shelter and would highly recommend it, although they might have limited opening hours during winter. We missed out on trying North at the opposite end of the long easy walked beach or prom . The Seaburn Inn is probably every day regardless of season.

We visited Sunderland to attend a Bruce Springsteen concert, Decided to stay the day before as well as the night after, Very mixed thoughts on our stay,The shopping centre was nice and friendly. Going out for tea was another matter! Whilst having a drink before tea in a town centre bar my Daughter was verbally abused by a local man which became problematic. However other venues were much nicer. After the concert we walked through the town and stopped for a drink which was very relaxed. Mowbray park is beautiful and peaceful even at midnight

Room was excellent, hotel brilliant location for us travelling to the Sunderland game, close to metro link etc. We had to leave early the next morning so we did not get any breakfast.
1 negative point was that when we were leaving there was no one on reception, totally deserted, it was around 5.45!!!
The location was close to the city centre on the bus, and the room was really clean and comfortable. Amazing value for money compared to other hotels. Free WiFi! The 24hr check-in was really useful.
The location was great. The apartment was spacious and very well appointed. Comfortable beds and quality towels. The Roker Hotel is 50m away, and it serves excellent food and some decent beer.
Very nice staff, helpful and welcoming. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable rooms and good shower. Would recommend the hotel thoroughly - perfect if you need to be in Sunderland.
Close to the city centre and much better than a hotel with 4 of us so we had more space that a room. Useful having the kitchen and dining area to chill before we went out
