The beaches and cliff walks are all very lovely, and there are plenty of nice parks, restaurants (a lot of which are italian) and pubs all charging reasonable prices. Great place to bring a dog as lots of varied walks all within easy reach.
Sunderland is one of the north’s least visited cities but it has had a rejuvenation on its seafront it also holds one of if not the best airshow shows in the U.K. sunderland has a lot to offer close to Newcastle via the metro local attractions like Durham and beamish all close at hand
Having not visited Sunderland before we were not sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised, We only ventured into town once but there seemed to be a good selection of shops and places to eat.The walk along the river back towards the marina was enjoyable with various sculptures to look at on route. We were based in Roker and were very impressed with the beach and facilities in the area. We enjoyed Kayaking with Adventure Sunderland who provided a good value for money experience. There were good eating out options, probably the top meal out for us was at Poetic Licence which is situated within the Roker Hotel on the sea front. Also the people we came across were friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to visit Sunderland again and hope to in the future.
River walks, white goose cafe. beaches, lovely stadium. Investment in some areas really appreciated, great people. I think we have come away with a better understanding of the history with regard to the hardships suffered from loss of industries.
Sunderland is my home town and I have great affection for it even though I moved away a number of years ago. The city centre is undergoing a lot of change, but has a lot to offer. There are wonderful parks, museums, the Empire Theatre, the Stadium of Light home to Sunderland AFC and of course the wonderful seafront which is the star attraction. Miles of beautiful, clean sandy beaches, crashing waves, rock pools, light houses and the best fish and chips! There are lots of bars and eating places along the front and later this year the new ‘Stack’ will open with even more choices of places to eat and shops. Sunderland is also a good place to stay to them explore the beautiful surrounding countryside of County Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire. So many wonderful places to visit within a short distance. I ❤️ Sunderland!!
Lovely city with plenty of shopping, nightlife, places to visit and of course access to some amazing beaches which are generally almost empty, even on the hottest of days. Certainly would recommend it to anyone
