We stayed at Wheatsheaf Hotel, and it was superb. Swinton is a very small, remote village in the Scottish borders. It appears on this, our first visit, to be sleepy and have little to do, but this was in January so it is probably not a true reflection. There are, however, a number of bigger towns within a reasonably short drive. so a car is essential to get about.

The room was charming with double aspect windows and a view over the green. The furnishings were comfortable and the room had everything you needed for a peaceful night. The hotel was spotlessly clean and tidy and very well presented. We ate dinner in the hotel, as well as breakfast, and the food was first rate. Lots of sofas for lounging about in the evening. The kitchen was big enough to cook big dinners for everyone and sit down at the big kitchen table to eat. Lovely views from all the windows.
