Thaxted is a picturesque village in Essex. There are some lovely local walks and plenty of places to eat and drink in the village. You don't need more than a day or an overnight to take in the beauty.
Thaxted is a beautiful little village. We stayed in a self catering cottage which I'd recommend because it's quite a sleepy village and, particularly on Sunday, almost nothing was open in terms of shops/food. It's fantastic for lovely walks, friendly pubs and there are lots of things to do without fairly short drives.
We came for the Morris dancing weekend, which was magical, but we found plenty more to visit in the area and the countryside is wonderful. Roads are good but very winding. The Thaxted residents are friendly and happy to chat. Saffron Walden is close and is a pleasant market town with a good car park. Colchester is further but is a good place for serious shopping.
