Wow, what a truly charming place to stay. Mum and I are visiting from Australia on a road trip across the UK, and while searching on Booking.com for somewhere to stay for the night, we came across Royal George. It looked full of character and the reviews were promising, so we decided to book — and we’re so glad we did. We stayed in a twin room with a balcony, which was modern, spacious, spotlessly clean, warm, and had everything we needed. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the outlook from our balcony was absolutely lovely. Unfortunately, the main restaurant was closed as it only opens on weekends during the off-season, but we still enjoyed a delicious meal in the bar/pub area, which had a great atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful — special shout-outs to Claire, Ryan, and Elle, who were simply amazing. Not only did they make us feel genuinely welcome, but they also helped us plan the next leg of our road trip with maps, tips, and fantastic suggestions of must-see places along the way. This was such a wonderful experience — not a single negative thing to say. We would highly recommend staying here and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

The staff were very friendly. The room had air-conditioning (god send in 32 degree weather) food came quick even when it was busy. I was attending a funeral and the funeral stated before check in time, when I asked if I could use their toilet to get changed, they checked to see if my room was ready and it was, so I managed to get in my room an hour an half early which was great. Food was great too.

Woolaston is a small village set in magnificent surroundings...

Woolaston is a small village set in magnificent surroundings. We stayed at Edge Barn, a mile or two across the fields from Woolaston. Had an excellent meal in the local pub, the Rising Sun. Apart from access from teh A48, all the roads leading to Woolaston are narrow contry roads with hedgerows on either side passing through forest or farmland. Loevely walking country with plenty of public foot paths. You need a car to make the most of your visit. We drove to Tintern Abbey and to the forest of Dean, both of which are well worth seeing.
