Mestia was a nice winter getaway to chill, get away from the hustle & bustle of the city and to simply enjoy and commune with nature. I love the Svan Towers, such amazingly unique architectural feat endemic to the Caucasus mountains! Locals were very welcoming and friendly. Everything was accessible within minutes by foot since it’s a small town. The drive, though long, winding & bumpy from Zugdidi, was so gorgeous with the Fall foliage & its vibrant colors; a winter wonderland landscapes, snowcapped mountains, and river dotted the landscape!

Mestia, capital of Svaneti region.
Mestia, capital of Svaneti region. The BEST region in Georgia & the best region I visited so far in Europe! There is no other place like Svaneti. The mountains are gorgeous, you cannot capture it in pictures. They have lovely ancient culture. Traditional foods like Kubdari, tashmijab, Svan salt and more. Svaneti has an incredibly interesting history with many little museums. Friendly people & the town has a very calm countryside village vibe when you go off the main road. It might take a bit longer to get here by car, but it’s absolutely worth it!!
I recommend for:
-Traditional Svan food: Chalet Mestia Restaurant
-Fast food: Setis Shouarma (very tasty shoarma!!)
-Coffee: Erti Kava (is a bit more expensive!)
-BBQ food: Mestia BBQ Garden (in summer only)
-Museum: Ratiani House Museum (must visit if you want to know more abour Svan culture!)
If you can definetly take a day trip to Ushguli with one of the shared taxi’s or marshrutkas.

Mestia has beautiful spots too hike, little too much touristy when I compare other remote places in Georgia. I suggest to discover outside of it too not only populat Mestia hiking routes, there are glaciers, lakes and waterfalls around.

Scenic, snow capped, mountains and landscapes around.
Scenic, snow capped, mountains and landscapes around. Many options for trekking during summer. Ski resorts during winter. The drive to Mestia is an experience in itself. Self drivable mountain roads, 5 hrs from Kutaisi and 5.5 hrs from Batumi.
Better to drive an SUV as couple of view points/ attractions have no paved roads. However, a regular sedan should work with extra caution.

We were absolutely amazed by the Georgian hospitality of Nana and Marina! Their warm welcome made us feel like we were at our own home. They good great care of us throughout the stay. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying 7 nights.
The hotel is located at the very beginning of Mestia at a very quiet and peaceful location. The views from the balcony are to die for!!
Marina prépares amazing breakfast and dinner. We didn't need to eat out throughout our stay. Overall it was an amazing stay and we loved it!!
I really enjoyed staying with Isolda and Bombora (cute little dog) and therefore ended up spending more time in Mestia than intended in the beginning. Isolda welcomed me with really delicious home made bread, I always had great porridge for breakfast and just felt really welcomed :-) I was the only guest staying there when I came which made my stay even more unique! I loved the self-made marmelade, tea out of fresh leaves and everything else :) by far my best guesthouse experience in Georgia!
It's located up on a hill, a 10 minute walk to the main square, with beautiful views across Mestia. The breakfast they served us was incredible- the best breakfast we've had in Georgia, and they have an old barn that they've converted into a rustic-style bar just next door. The place is beautiful and the owners were lovely- I couldn't fault it.
Hotel was very good standard, especially compared to others in Mestia. Clean, modern room, good location, very nice and helpful hosts. Breakfast was also great, the home made cake was a special treat, as well as the apple juice. Beautiful view from the balcony. The hotel was quiet. Good heating system. Highly recommend to book it.
