The location very centered and just overseeing the village and Shkhara Glacier is breathtaking, the staff is incredibly friendly, family owned guesthouse with warm atmosphere and a blend of backpackers from all around, yet small enough to give a homey intimate feel. Ushguli an amazing place. I travelled from Tbilisi by car. The roads are not the best and you will need a 4WD car, but you will be rewarded with amazing views. untouched landscape and unforgettable views. When in Ushguli you will feel like someone sent you back to another century and this is what gives this village a distinctive charm. In the village itself you do not need a car, everything is walking distance and make sure you do walk around and dive into the village life. When you visit Ushguli even in Summer be aware that it can get a little chilly in the evening outdoors.
The landscape is amazing, you can have an easy hike to the glacier, rent a horse or hire a 4x4 car to take you to the glacier. There are hikes for every level, you can be very unfit and you will still enjoy it. If you are a hiker than for sure you are in heaven. Try the cinema, it is a very authentic experience.
This was absolutely the best part of Georgia for my husband and I. The combination of medieval towers, spectacular mountain scenery, and getting to see everyday farm life in the village was such a unique experience. The hike to the nearby Shkhara glacier is also fabulous. I would love to come back here someday.
Incredibly difficult place to get to but worth the effort. High in the Svaneti mountains, close to the glaciers, this is a trekker's paradise. Kids riding their ponies through the streets at break-neck speed, shooing pigs from the garden, cows being milked in the street, this place has it all. And the scenery is out of this world
A truly amazing experience. Fantastic surroundings, a spectacular transport and a rare glimpse of everyday life in a unique rural village. History and cultural heritage is obvious wherever you are in the villages.
It's definately worth to stay minimum 2 days or more! Amazing landscape and lovely people. It's takes a day to get the spirit and the relaxing aura. Please check the tourist information center in ushguli for further infomation and hiking information.
