Fajara is rather upmarket, not as lively/noisy as Kololi and Kotu. You can find a whole spectrum of shops, bars and restaurants here. Shared/cheap taxis constantly pass through Fajara, making it easy to visit the markets in Bakau: fish, craft, fruit and vegetable. A little further lies Serekunda, the most populated town in The Gambia, with its famous market and more specialised traders. There is an excellent hospital in Fajara. Finally, there is a nice beach: I've witnessed many a beautiful sunset here.
Would have spent more time with the people, they made the family happy every where. I/We wanted to seek out more klans of the Gambia people, just didn"t have time. We extended the trip in Fajara,Gambia to Dec 1 thru Dec 22,2016 because we enjoyed it soooooo much, and now we plan to return in April 2017. IT was Great !!!!!!!!
Fajara has more western style shops than many other districts in Gambia, also nearby is the Medical Research Council, diplomatic missions, Timbooktou book shop with wifi, and it is easy to get around. The Lebayto hotel is on the northern tip of Kotu bay.
