Everything was perfect and included with the hotel. Sandy beach front property, large clean pool and roomy accommodations. The bus comes every 15 minutes it stops in front of the hotel which was convenient. We used it instead of our car rental to visit the city center of Heraklion, not having to worry about finding parking.

Beautiful tavernas with delicious food, reasonably priced. Beach is great for families, quite a few cafes with pools, great crepe place though I didn’t try any. Really lovely town, a bit busy on the road but as this runs to Heraklion it is extremely convenient for buses to other parts of Crete, such as Knossos. We mostly went to the seaside and the beaches are wonderful. We ate in the hotel's Maxim restaurant, Haven restaurant on the beach and Petousis restaurant. The main attractions in Heraklion are: 1. The pedestrian tourist zone with the lion fountain. It’s very vibey & colourful with lots of souvenir stores, brand name shops, pubs, cafes, ice cream parlors, tavernas, restaurants, buskers etc… 2. The Palace of Knossos. Well worth an interesting visit with on site guides. 3. There are some decent beaches within a 10 km radius.

Amoudara has one main street where all the shops and restaurants are and that's pretty much it. You take any side streets and you'll end up in one of the neighboring settlements. The place feels neglected and doesn't look pretty. From half-finished, deserted buildings with lots of junk nearby, to overgrown shrubs and trees, which you have to avoid by ducking or walking into the street sometimes, which doesn't make it very safe. There's also a power plant nearby which really takes away from the overall impression. During the first couple of days of my stay, there was some unpleasant smell in the air, not sure if it was the power plant or some other reason, but it was really awful. The beach is great as long as it's not windy but, unfortunately, it usually is.
