Beautiful old town on the harbour maintaining a venetian facade that is slowly being developed sympathetically. The usual array of tourist shops and eating and drinking places, Cretan hospitality abounds
We visited the new Archeological Museum, it was lovely and very worthwhile. The old city is wonderful, the old walls, ruins, remains. We took a self guided walking tour to discover the sites. The Central Market is a huge project and is under total reconstruction and renovation, the signage says it will be ready by the end of the year. Our favorite restaurant was Pallas.
THE PORT WAS WONDERFUL TO WALK AROUND AND TAKE IN THE ARCHITECTURE AS WELL AS SHOPPING. THE EXCURSIONS OFFERED AT THE PORT- GLASS BOTTOM BOAT TOUR- WAS AMAZING AND GAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE TO THE TOWN. PARKING WAS EASY IN AND AROUND THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE TOWN, AND AN EASY WALK INTO THE PORT. WE ACTUALLY FOUND A WONDERFUL RESTAURANT WITHIN THE OLD PORT BUT AWAY FROM THE TOURISTY AREA THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC; TO KAFENIO BY THE CHURCH OF AGIOS NIKOLAOS.
The old town and the Venetian Harbor were really fun to explore. The history of Chania is fascinating. The Archeological Museum of Chania is worthwhile. The options for dining were varied and plentiful, even in the low season. We took the bus to the nearby town of Rethymno, which was a fun day trip, highly recommended.
Chania has history and I would recommend reading, particularly abiout the World War 2 experience, to inform where you might visit on the island of Crete. Chania itself is a good mixture of old and new with so many charming tavernas and cafes. Not too much to do when it rains, and I has a few of those as I was here for the month of November: like summer in the south of England.
The nicest city in the island. Fine food, nice local people, wonderful landscapes, a gorgeous city, an incredible hinterland, great shopping, plenty of history, special atmosphere… a marvellous place!
The hotel is in a superb location, very close to multiple beaches and Chania town centre. The room was very clean, spacious, we had a fridge and bathroom supplies. Breakfast was amazing, the chef made sure to prepare different home made meals and desserts every day. The hotel staff was lovely. Would think it’s more than just 1*. The hotel is family-run and they have been very kind to give us advice of what to visit in Crete and to book an excursion to Samaria Gorge for us with a pick up from the hotel. Make sure you stay in a sea view room!
Chania
Cretan Berry was easily the best hotel that I’ve had the pleasure to stay at. Located right in the heart of Old Town, The surrounding areas are beautiful, safe and quiet. Our rooms were beautifully designed and very spacious, comfortable and cozy. Georgia the manager of the hotel was exceptionally welcoming and had answers to all of our questions and went above and beyond. The cleaning staff were excellent, always smiling and very friendly. Looking forward to staying with them again in the future whenever we plan to stay in Chania.
My room truly had the best view of the harbor in Old Town Chania! My little porch looked out over everything and it was especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset and I could see the lighthouse perfectly too! The room itself was lovely, comfortable, and relaxing! And the staff was so wonderful and friendly, and I truly appreciated them working with me with my odd times of an early arrival and leaving early as well in the morning. They helped me arrange a taxi right to the door for my early departure! Thank you!!😊
Don’t think I’ve ever stayed in such a good 4 star hotel. v traveller friendly in terms of commodities and comfort. Great location if travelling by car, but also for access to old town. We had a lovely, spotlessly clean room with face cloths ( a rarity in 4 & even 5 star hotels). Breakfast was delicious with fresh orange juice. Staff delightful. In all, one of those rare 4 star experiences. Currently in 5 star in Heraklion which is not a patch on Samaria.
Chania
Great location, incredible value for money. Friendly and professional staff. Room is spacious and view is amazing. Parking is about 5 min walk and is free. It’s well worth staying in Chania town even if you’re not necessarily looking to stay where all the restaurants/bars are. It’s very quiet even though you’re right above the main tourist area. Also great that it isn’t a hotel with reception. Overal great experience.
Chania
Marina and Nick were friendly and very responsive hosts, with suggestions for local eateries and things to do. The flat itself was beautifully decorated, spacious and thoughtfully appointed so we had everything we needed for our stay. We had a lovely time exploring Chania Town Centre and it was wonderfully located near a beach as well as major motorways so we could explore other parts of Crete.
The hotel is great overall. The room was clean and tidy. The breakfast buffet had a number of choices and there was something new almost every day. The location is great if you want to explore the west side of Crete with a car rental for example. The hotel is situated on a main street which provides excellent connections for travel but is also close to the the beach in Chania and the old town.
We only stayed for one day, but if i knew sooner I would have reserved for longer. The staff was so nice and welcoming. The location was in the "subburb" of old town Chania, but it was nice. Easier to breathe, 5 steps from the sea and much things to see. (You also get a flyer of things to visit in the Chania region of Crete) The room was nice. Small but comfortable.
We booked 5 nights at the start of our holiday in Crete. Chania is a gem and we had a great time. Small hotel in side street leading to seafront about 50 metres away. Excellent, central location in old town. Large, clean and comfortable room with kitchenette, air con and small balcony with sea view. Excellent breakfast included at taverna right next door.
Location was beautiful. Lovely rooms and an amazing breakfast with something for everyone’s taste. Staff very helpful in arranging transportation for excursions for a large group Also ate dinner at the restaurant. Food was one of the best we had in Crete. This of course was a surprise since all of the food in Crete was delicious
Chania
Our host at the reception was very helpful and provided us with lots of tips on how best to go about visiting this part of Crete. The room was big, very clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the small balcony had a nice view of the street leading down to the old harbor in Chania. Good value for money!
Chania
The hotel is super well located right in the center of the old town. The hotel and the room are beautifully designed and decorated. The room is amazing with a view of the ocean. Stelios is a great host and an amazing person, went more than the extra mile to help us out with our plans in Crete.
This hotel was fantastic! The staff were incredible, making you feel like family, recommending restaurants and things to do, and helping with everything you need. The room was really comfortable and with a great view, and great location in Old Town. I was sad to leave!
Chania
Eleonora apartment is the best in old town of Chania. Only one minute way to Chania promenade . The owner is very hospitality, amazing kind and lovely woman. She is the greates wife and mother in Crete. She is taking care about the guests on every steps.
Location is everything and this place is right in the middle of Old Town Chania. A beautiful little boutique hotel. A short walk to restaurants and sightseeing attractions. The front desk was very helpful with getting us to the location.
I spent one night at the hotel before getting on my flight back home. Wonderful view over Chania and close the airport. Exactly what I needed! Great breakfast and wonderful pool to enjoy my last day on Crete!
Chania
It is close to the bus station and the old town can be reached in 10 minutes. the room is well equipped and very clean. the staff was very friendly. Soap and shampoo made of olive oil from Crete 😊
