Rhodes has great connection to other Dodecanese islands and more , ferry boats are convenience. Also international airport and airport shuttle bus for 3.50eur to take you to the city center. English is spoken widely. Very nice food and many choices for authentic food. Ouzokafenes restaurant was fantastic for nice Greek dining. But if you want quick grab look around mandraki. Place called Fast food~ cheap and so great. Local dive in. Taxis can be pricey so as Uber. During peak afternoon evening hours expect delays.
La Terezza restaurant on the beach with the cruise ships, the old town was amazing but some restaurants are overpriced. Walking around the walls, takes about an hour but is worth it, you can walk through holes in the walls!! The archeological museum is worth a visit. Just exploring the narrow streets without getting lost is fun, we found a small church in like a cave, it was amazing, it’s called Church of St John the Baptist
We stayed in the Old Town for two nights. The one thing I didn’t do was the castle and that wasn’t for lack of time, more that it was so hot, I couldn’t be bothered to be honest. I think two days was perfect, especially because we did the hop on, hop off tour on the first day so we saw loads. But we had also done a boat trip and beach day in Turkey already so we had our fill of those activities elsewhere. Overall, I would say if you’re looking to mix beach, boats, and sight seeing, a week would probably be better. But for just sight seeing, two days was plenty, maybe we could have done three at a maximum but as charming as the Old Town is, eventually you feel like you’ve seen most sights of historical significance and then it’s just souvenir shop after souvenir shop. We did go on to other areas of Rhodes to do a wine tasting and vineyard tour, cooking class, butterfly valley and go to the beach so this review doesn’t reflect those activities, this is strictly about the Old Town.
the town was crowded when we arrived, 5 cruise ships in port. If you don`t like crowds, Rhodes Town is not the place for you. The town itself is full of history, but is very commercialised with lots of souvenir shops and many cafes and tavernas, some very tacky. It is easy to walk around, but take flat, thick soled shoes as there are a lot of small cobbles.
The Old Town is one of the most impressive places you will ever see. It has over a thousand years of history and the city walls and fortifications are absolutely massive. There are miles of narrow cobbleways, full of cheap authentic local restaurants and we covered a different area each evening. It is possible to walk around most of the gigantic walls inside the outer moat, but make sure that your phone/camera is fully charged before you go out ! Don't sit down to drink or eat in the main squares- there are many good bars and tavernas within a hundred yards round the corner at half the price. CRUISE SHIPS- the most popular streets are narrow and can be an absolute nightmare, so try to avoid when the boats are in.
Rhodes is a great city. We have been here second time. For the first time we only came for one afternoon for sightseeing, second time we spent there three days and I must admit that 5 days would be great to stay and enjoy beaches, historical city centre at night is charming, new town is also great. Everything is close so you can walk everywhere. I really recommend it for anybody - young, couples, families with children of all ages even elderly. Everyone can find and enjoy something in there. One of the cities you would like to return to.
Whenever I look back on the the favorite parts of my travels it inevitably involves people. Our stay in Rhodes at Mercure Rhodes Alexia Hotel was very nice. The location was convenient to all areas. The facilities had everything we needed. The breakfast options were endless and delicious. We enjoyed coffee in the morning and wine in the evening on our deck looking out over the sea. It was the staff that really made our stay enjoyable. It was their personal touches and suggestions that we will remember.
Rhodes Town
Saint Michel it’s a charming boutique hotel in the middle of old town Rhodes. It is close walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The owners Chris and Sergio are the absolute best! They are both very hospitable and charming. Chris picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry port. Chris is an excellent chef and prepared us fabulous meals. Sergio was kind enough to drive us to the post office in new town Rhodes. They both go out of their way to make sure their guests are taken care of.
You will not find better I assure you. Katerina and her family are the most superb hosts and will go out of there way to ensure your stay is very pleasurable. This is on top of the hotel being beautiful restored building in the old town. Tasteful interior design to match the surroundings. Hosts are full of knowledge of the surrounding area, best trips, restaurants you name it Katerina will help. This is a very new business started in a very difficult time and deserves every success.
This has to be the best location for a hotel in Rhodes town, and at a very reasonable cost. Its at the tip of the island, surrounded by beach and the open sea. There are lovely beach side restaurants close by, and its a pleasant short walk to the old town. The hotel has a swimming pool and bar area. The breakfast selection is excellent and the staff are very helpful. We had a city view room, but I'm sure its worth paying the extra for a sea view room. The sunsets are amazing.
Excellent location at the Northern tip of Rhodes Town with access to the beaches on the Western (windy) and Eastern (more calm) sides of the island. Also, you have access to the pool at the Cactus hotel across the street--a reasonable sized pool with a large area for sunbeds unlike many hotels in Rhodes Town. There is also a bar and restaurant at the pool. The sea views from the rooms are fantastic. The superior rooms on the top floors are renovated.
Rhodes Town
Great location in Rhodes. The apartment was very clean. We had the top floor, 2 bedroom apt. Chris is a great host, he owns the place and his attention to detail shows. He met us at St John's gate, and showed us everything in the apartment. He provided a few provisions in the apartment which was a very nice touch and he was accessible anytime we had questions. It's in a quiet location with easy, quick access to the old town.
Very recommendable hotel with super friendly staff and excellent value for money. We booked all inclusive and it was very good choice - the food was tasty and for this price we really could not expect anything better. The hotel is a 15min bus drive to the city center but it was not an inconvenience, the buses go every 30min and the bus stop is right next to the hotel. All in all very pleasant stay!
Amazing staff and team. They were very friendly and helpful with recommendations. The hotel has a great location in the centre of the old town, but no noise at night. We also enjoyed having a chilled evening cocktail on the rooftop terrace. The rooms were very clean. Breakfast at the cafe downstairs was delicious (dishes were around $8-12 euros). Would love to stay again.
Wonderful hotel. Near the beach, bus stop to the airport, taverns, shops. Very comfortable and quiet. Very comfortable bed, cleaning every day, change of towels. The territory is beautifully decorated. Delicious breakfast. The owners of the hotel are the best people in Greece. They saved my life, and I will be eternally grateful to them. I highly recommend it for living
The hotel was very good. The reception and restaurant staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Always very accommodating. Very good selection of meals in the restaurant buffet. Excellent WiFi coverage throughout the hotel. Excellent location in Rhodes town. In a short walking distance to the beach, restaurants/bars Old Town and harbour for boat tours.
Rhodes Town
Location is awesome, a rooftop restaurateur with the best view of the old city. Minos and Patricia were gracious and accommodating. Food and drink availability is so convenient when you are tired from a day of walking. As the hotel was not full, we were upgraded at no additional fee, to a suite of two rooms. So peaceful, we slept with the windows open.
It was a good experience. Medieval like appearance and ambience was great. My room was big, comfy and cozy and also very clean. Stuff was helpful and smiling. Hotel is located nearly in the middle of the old town and close to the attractions. Definitely worth for booking. If i planning to come back to Rhodes, i will search for this hotel.
Lovely hotel in Central location.. all inclusive and very kind and friendly staff. Water and tea and coffee facilities are supplied in the rooms which is a welcome touch. Food is very nice. Luggage storage is available if you have a late flight and you can still use the hotel facilities after check out.
A delightful hotel in Rhodes old town. The manager Theo was extremely welcoming and accommodating, recommending local restaurants to try and sights to see. The location was perfect for exploring the ancient sights of Rhodes and the delicious home cooked breakfast set us up for our days of exploring.
A brilliant hotel with the very best staff. I can't praise their attitude enough. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone needing a stopover in the lovely Rhodes town. The rooms, public areas, pool, restaurant are all lovely but the staff and their helpfulness push it up a level.
Location right in old town Rhodes. The staff are very communicative and helpful. They upgraded our room while we were there! Great rooftop terrace and lower courtyard also. Rooms have a nice old-style decor that is fitting for the area. Kettle in room is helpful.
Everything. Everyone knows Koukos as a great eating and drinking place. It is ALWAYS packed. The staff is amazing and fun to chat with all the time. They take care of everything you need. I would stay here anytime I came to Rhodes City, Greece.
Amazing new hotel in the heart of Rhodes. Walking distance from every site. -Very good breakfast - Very clean hotel - Amazing pool on the third floor 😍
