Just 33 feet from Sougia Beach in Crete, Santa Irene features a snack bar with a furnished terrace. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout and self-catering units with views over the Libyan Sea or the... We had an amazing, relaxing stay at Santa Irene. It was easily the biggest room we had in Crete. The owner and the staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful, always reserving us a free sun bed right on the beach. We were also given a free room upgrade so had a rooftop view which was stunning. Sougia is a real paradise and Santa Irene is the perfect base to enjoy it.

Located in Sougia, To Spiti mas has accommodations with free WiFi, air conditioning and access to a garden with a terrace. The location is 2 minutes from Sougia... perfect to get the bus for the San Maria hike. Spyros and and his mum were absolutely wonderful... very reactive to all our messages, super punctual to welcome us and even proposing us a bigger room than the one we had reserved. The appartement itself is amazingly nicely decorated... with its little terrasse... fresh water and a bottle of wine we’re waiting for us as well as some coffee ... the appartement is just in front of a restaurant with the best houmous we have ever tasted.

Located just 656 feet from the beach of Sougia, 3-star Syia Hotel offers self-catering rooms with private balcony. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the hotel. My friends and I rented a studio and apartment at the end of July 2020 for 3 nights. It was everything as described. Bed was comfortable and the AC worked (the temps were in the 30's celsius 🥵. The apartment is extremely clean, spacious, offers lovely views of the mountains and of the sea (just a few hundred meters away). The kitchen was well equipped. We mostly used it for breakfast, coffee/tea and afternoon drinks with snacks. Markos and his wife are wonderful, friendly hosts. We enjoyed early morning hikes in the hills, and spent our afternoons enjoying the water and relaxing. This is a perfect place for adventurous hiking on the E4 and/or spending time lounging by the shore. The beach to the far left past the rocks is a bit of a walk, but well worth the trek over the hot rocks in late July. There's a beach bar close to it that offers shade and cold drinks. Thank you Markos for our pleasant stay and hope to get back again soon!
What a place. Only one hour walk (or 7 minute taxi ride costing only 10 euro) to reach Sougia from the monastery estate guesthouse. Locals were friendly and took the time to chat to you about your travel plans / share local knowledge. The food in every taverna we ate in was high quality fresh local produce and the prices very reasonable. Could pass an entire day on the sunloungers, listening to the sea then going for some Greek food, then watching sunset. Also Lissos is nearby - we didn't manage to visit but we took a boat trip to palaiochora beach which was lovely. Didn't beat Sougia though!
Strategically a great place for the Samaria and Irini Gorges. We self catered so didn’t go into town other than to the mini markets where you can buy everything. The ferry to Agia Roumelli and Paelochora go from here too.
Sougia is the place to stay. Small and quiet but with a good choice of restaurants. A bus leaves every morning at 7am for the Samaria Gorge entrance. The boat leaves to bring you back at 5.30pm. Perfect.
The village is lovely and the people very warm and friendly. The restaurants are all good, although not a lot of variety between menus. The place is so relaxing and a lovely vibe there, live music can be found most nights. The beach is pebbly and getting into the sea was painful because of that but buying a pair of shoes to swim in sorted that out. Not great for small children as the sea gets very deep quickly although it is wonderfully clear. Felt sad to be leaving and will definitely be back.
Walkers in t he spring and beach lovers and party animals in high summer. Boats available along the coast. Big beach with nudist end. Deep water. Good restaurants and cafes and lots of places to stay.
This is a lovely relaxed place to stay. The beach is pebble and nearly a km long beautifully clean with an EU blue flag. It also benifits from a life guard during the holiday season. Sun loungers are available for hire at 5euro a day for two beds and an umbrella. The beach is fringed with snack bars and tavernas offering shade at lunch time. Parking is available at both ends of the high st and camping is allowed on one side of the beach. Sougia is a relaxed seaside town with a few shops and supermarkets which stock all the basics there is also an excellent bakery which opens at 5am selling wonderful pastries and also tickets for the bus which runs to Chania. The tavernas are of good quality and traditional Cretan food is in abundance. A great spot to catch one of the ferries to the Sumaria gorge or day trips to visit the more remote spots on the south coast. We love the relaxed feel of Sougia and always enjoy our time there!
