Located at the foothills of Mount Psiloritis, just a few yards from Zaros village, Idi Hotel is a family-run hotel offering traditional accommodations. What a beautiful place! A hidden gem in the mountains. Immaculately clean inside and out, lovely garden and pool. Great food, friendly staff! Can’t say enough.
Offering real Cretan hospitality, this charming and traditional inn provides cozy accommodations, homemade crafts and a delicious complimentary breakfast, using fresh produce from the family farm. This is our third time staying at this lovely traditional hotel and it never fails to impress us. The hotel is beautifully decorated with traditional things, and of course the breakfast of Katerina's homemade pastries is superb. We are greeted like old friends when we arrive and leave with hugs and little gifts from Katerina. This is a true Cretan experience you will not be disappointed with.
Zaros has accommodations in the guesthouse. Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, room service and a tour desk, along with free WiFi. Clean, friendly and inexpensive place to stay. Katerina and her family are most welcoming. Worth trying her breakfast buffet as she takes great pride in her delicious Cretan pies. Fun time with her son Michalis’ farm tour too
The Nana Apartments are ideally located in a green valley amid the beautiful mountain surroundings around Zaros village in Crete, which is at an altitude of 1115 feet. Nice family hotel, very comfortable. Dimitris is a great and helpful host. Breakfast was great, especially the fried goat's cheese that was superb
Located in Nívritos, Nivritos Traditional Homes offers accommodations with a balcony and kitchen. Free WiFi is offered. Zaros is 2.4 mi from the property. The perfect place for a real Greek vacation in a small mountain village, with narrow, steep streets, friendly neighbors, with a distant view of the sea from the terrace to the left, and mountains to the right. The caretaker of the house gave us traditional cakes and sweets for dinner and milk for breakfast. The apartment is very clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated and renovated to give a feel of luxury, but this is an old house - all walls are tilted, thick, built with stones. Touch the walls - you can touch the history of this place. A great location from which one can explore southern Crete with the car. It's less than 4 km to Zaros with shops and restaurants.
Quiet mountain town famous for plentiful supply of mineral water. Very friendly helpful locals. Great views of soaring mountains above. Centre for many fine Cretan natural products from dried herbs to Olive Oils. Try the local Trout for Dinner.
A very small community but nevertheless with Votomos lake, the gorge and nearby Festos a good location for a few days. Has supermarkets, fuel and atm. Driving in town needs caution because streets are narrow and busy.
Zaros is a typical small Creten town with little to recommend it. The Idi Hotel is another world. I wouldn't recommend Zaros for anything. but the hotel could be used as a base for many of the activities below.
We were only there for one night, en route to SE Crete and wanted a night in the mountains. From the room's balcony we had a magnificent view of the mountains. The beds were not only real antiques, but very comfortable, We ate at Vegera taverna and had our best meal in Crete. (especially as there were 2 vegetarians in the party! Vivi is a great cook and a lovely person and Georgios couldn't have been nicer.
Seems totally unaffected by the relatively small number of tourists and gets on with its life quite happily, Kermos rooms are excellent with visits to its farm a great addition. Good walking, some beautiful churches and not far from some major sites plus the Saturday market at Moiries. Our second visit and we will be back just to sit outside the cafeneion kept by Dimitris the Fox and watch the late night traffic and listen to the chat
A village in a time warp. It does not appear to have progressed much in the last 50 years apart from the vehicles and the mobile phones. The pace of life is slow to almost stop,so it is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of other European life.
