Michalis and his family were great hosts. They built a stone house in the steep mountain of their farm where they grow olive and carob trees. Our kids got to play with and feed their farm animals and we also learned how to make cheese. As we did not have a car, Michalis drove us around the area. He took us to see the water bottling plant (Zaros) which was very interesting for us as we had never been inside an automated factory.

The manager was super nice, the bed was really comfortable, the breakfast was complete, and the location is good, 5 min walk to the village. We had also a balcony which was handy for drying clothes.

This came a bit randomly in our trip and we’re glad it did. We loved Zaros for both the warmth of its people and the beauty of its decor. Our hike in Rouvas was great and every encounter was like it was family members.
One of the highlights of our trip to Creta. If you like getting closer to people and their culture it’s a must on your list.
If you’re into more attractions or shopping this one is not for you.

A very nice area of olive groves and brush from 500 m up where you can go hiking right from the hotel (Agios Ethimnios, Rouvas Gorge) or from Lake Votomos. You can also visit monasteries (in particular Vrontisi monastery). Plenty of good and very affordable tavernas around.

Zaros is a very nice village with good food (I highly recommend Vegera tavern- I got a delicious fish with different salads, fries, pasta, bread, olives, wine and dessert for only 15 euro, everything was so delicious and the owner is so nice and kind, she gave me advice on what to see near Zaros etc.), well ecquiped shops, 2 gas stations, nice architecture, coffee shops, hotels (recommended espetially Keramos hotel! - the owners hosted me at their farm but I also saw the hotel and it is amazing!), sourranded by the mountains. Very calm place, where it is nice to walk (there is a famous lake near). There is also a beautiful monastery not far from the village. It is easy to reach the seashore (30 mins by car). I espetially recommend Komos and Agiofarago beaches.

A very small community but nevertheless with Votomos lake, the gorge and nearby Festos a good location for a few days. Has supermarkets, fuel and atm. Driving in town needs caution because streets are narrow and busy.
This is a small, country, hotel with good facilities. The location is great, away from the excessive heat of the seaside, up into the mountains. The pool is great and the grounds are well maintained. The breakfast is good and the attached restaurant is great for lunch and dinner. All in all a very good place.
The location of the farm was amazing, surrounded by mountains and in total piece outside of Zaros.
We were warmly welcomed by the family, received cretan wine upon arrival and great recommendations for the area.
Make sure that you do not miss the farm experience. We hope to he back again!
Incredible hotel with incredible owners, and super breakfast...in the same center of the village, they help you with everything you need, and always helps you and tell you whatever you want to know....the best place i stayed in crete!
Beautiful rooms in Zarós, at a good location and with friendly staff. We felt at home. We hope that we will be back in the future, and spend more time in Keramos and Zarós. Thank you for your hospitality.
