The view on the sea is amazing and the rooms are really comfortable. They serve food all day which is really nice and there is a water container so you don't have to worry about getting water. The staff was nice and helped us with diving, snorkelling and the transfer back to Makassar.

Very private, not much people around even it has a restaurant down there. The staff really nice. Overall, it is clean even some facilities looks old and need upgrade (sink, hand bidet)

On the map, Bira looks relatively "close" to Makassar, and most reviews say that it is a popular weekend destination. But don't be fooled by the map, it is rather a day-trip of about 6 hours to get from Makassar to Bira. But this is certainly worth it, once you have seen the beautiful white beach and the amazing colour of the water! All taken into account, we would recommend to stay at least 3 nights or more to be able to enjoy this fully. The Bara Beach Bungalows are located almost at the end of the beach, in a nice sloping garden. The restaurant and reception is near the beach terrace and serves excellent food! We had many nice meals here and were not disappointed. We especially liked the water refill station (hot and cold water for free), this helps to reduce the plastic waste! Breakfast is sometimes served as a buffet if there are many guests, but on most days we got to select from the breakfast menu options (special requests were never a problem). Staff is very friendly and speaks good English, on most days you will also be able to meet the manager who appears to be a native speaker in both Indonesian and English and who gave us lots of nice advice for trips around the area. We definitely recommend to do a snorkeling trip by boat to the small island opposite the beach, there is a really beautiful coral reef garden with lots of different fish to be explored! You can walk along the beach during low tide to get to the other resorts, especially the partner location Akasha Beach Club is worth a visit for sunset! But keep the tide times in mind to safely get back and bring a torch or headlight (there is a road as well, just in case). Would stay here again any time if we are in the area!

Baracoco Bungalows is beautiful accommodation overlooking Bara Beach. The staff are amazing, present, helpful, friendly and professional. They are also fantastic cooks. The regular menu is excellent, but they also have delicious specials. They once made me fresh new boiled potatoes in garlic and parsley butter sauce, which was not what I was expecting in South East Asia and made a tasty change from rice (which I like, but I appreciated the diversity of cuisine here). They also made the best gado gado I had in Indonesia. The sea view ocean front bungalow I had was wonderful, affording beautiful views out over the cerulean-blue Flores Sea. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the bungalow kept cool by fresh sea breezes and a fan. Air conditioning is not necessary at all, the temperatures are perfect. It's an exciting five to six hour drive from Makassar, the contrast between tradition and modernity, people travelling in horse drawn coaches next to massive wind farms generating renewable energy, is fascinating. This is the perfect place to escape winter, and I spent three weeks here, and a total of a month in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Very nice bungalow with a beautiful view on the sea. The room is clean with a nice bed. The balcony is very enjoyable, with a hammock and a bench. The bathroom is big with good equipment. Restaurant has an amazing view, and dinner is delicious for very reasonable prices (beers are a bit expensive though), with many choices of fish and meat. Breakfast is good as well. Wooden stairs make it possible to « jump » to the water directly from the restaurant (it looks like there has been a beach at some point; but now you go inside water directly) and go swim and snorkel. The staff is nice and helps with transportation. Note that there is a 25 minutes walk to reach the city center (if you need laundry for instance). But you can find water and small food around the hotel.
