Toward the end of our 4-day stay, I decided to self-quarantine myself and cope with a cold while the rest of the family enjoyed the sights and sites in the village. At some point the manager became aware of my status and coordinated with the kitchen to prepare some broth-heavy soup (as the attached tavern did not have any chicken noodle soup on their menu). I also liked the attached bookstore and chatting with Robert, the owner, before buying a few genealogy-related books. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was our encounter with about 10 locals at the next table in the tavern. After volunteering to take a photo of their group celebrating an 80th birthday, they provided me with a few leads in my search for some information regarding my 2g-grandfather in the 1850s. That led me to the Puddleducks Café down the street and a chance to chat with the manager (who connected me to the owner - and his brother - at the Spar station).

Our room was cozy, well equipped and clean. We stayed for a night here, came with two motorbikes what were on security oniste parking. Teresa prepared breakfast for us in the fridge. Waking up for birdchirping after a quiet night was so relaxing. Thank you, and see you next time! 🙂

Cong is a lovely village, very clean and tidy, traffic on a one way system, main route with lots of articulated lorries passing. But easy to navigate. As a big "The Quiet Man" fan I loved it, with tours and Museum and also Ashford Castle. Had dinner in Pat Cohan's great restaurant /pub with great staff. Local people are very friendly, would visit again

There are lovely forest paths behind Cong Abbey that we enjoyed. It was fun to go into the pub/restaurant that was used in the old movie The Quiet Man. A lot of it was filmed in Cong. We really enjoyed John Burke’s Restaurant in nearby Clonbur. It was recommended by our host!

Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic ruined Abbey and the extraordinarily beautiful woods adjacent to Ashford Castle. There are many lovely walking trails amidst the huge trees - that include some redwoods. Sadly, many trees were downed during the devastating Storm Eowyn in January 2025, so a number of trails, including access to Lough Corrib beach, have been blocked. Also, be aware that this is a popular tourist area and buses can disgorge large groups at any time during the day. All the more reason to stay overnight!

Beautiful village and even during off peak season the scenery and entertainment was top notch. Fans of The Quiet Man need this little village on their to-do list. We visit every year at least once, sometimes 2 or 3 times with different friends

A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to...

A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to explore on foot. The Abbey is free to visit and there are several river and woodland walks leading from it. Lots of wildlife to be seen, herons, ducks and even a leaping salmon! Lydons was a great place to stay and to eat in. We only stayed one night but will definitely go back to explore some more.

Beautiful village.

Beautiful village. Probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. Lots to do and a good location for several excursions. The restaurants in the village were all good. The service and the food were exceptional. The boat trip on the Loch was amazing. If I were Irish, I would move to Cong. I have never felt so relaxed and at peace. If you are a Quiet Man movie fan, this is the place for you. It was an added bonus for me.

Ashford Villa is a beautiful, clean, well presented property in a fabulous location. The host was very pleasant & helpful and was kind enough to provide the making of a lovely Irish breakfast. Cong is just a short walk through the grounds of Ashford Castle. We enjoyed The Quiet Man walking tour and delicious food in Cong. Ashford Villa is a great find and we'll definitely be back. The location of this hotel was central to the areas we were visiting such as Ashford Castle. We ate in the pub restaurant and the food was good. The breakfast was also good. There is limited parking outside but there was plenty of parking available on the surrounding roads. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definently stay again next time we go back to Cong.

super quality of apartment and welcome. It is on the side of their house with complete privacy and with a parking space, garden table and chairs and absolutely great bed to sleep on Cong is just a couple of minutes away as is Ballinrobe where there is a large Tesco's to cook at home if you wish. As quiet and peaceful as you could find in Ireland
