Toward the end of our 4-day stay, I decided to self-quarantine myself and cope with a cold while the rest of the family enjoyed the sights and sites in the village. At some point the manager became aware of my status and coordinated with the kitchen to prepare some broth-heavy soup (as the attached tavern did not have any chicken noodle soup on their menu). I also liked the attached bookstore and chatting with Robert, the owner, before buying a few genealogy-related books. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was our encounter with about 10 locals at the next table in the tavern. After volunteering to take a photo of their group celebrating an 80th birthday, they provided me with a few leads in my search for some information regarding my 2g-grandfather in the 1850s. That led me to the Puddleducks Café down the street and a chance to chat with the manager (who connected me to the owner - and his brother - at the Spar station).

Michael and Geraldine served us a feast breakfast with two choices of Irish and continental style. The rooms are very clean and the beds are quite comfortable. There is a lake nearby their house, around 10 minutes’ walk.

Cong is a lovely village, very clean and tidy, traffic on a one way system, main route with lots of articulated lorries passing. But easy to navigate. As a big "The Quiet Man" fan I loved it, with tours and Museum and also Ashford Castle. Had dinner in Pat Cohan's great restaurant /pub with great staff. Local people are very friendly, would visit again

There are lovely forest paths behind Cong Abbey that we enjoyed. It was fun to go into the pub/restaurant that was used in the old movie The Quiet Man. A lot of it was filmed in Cong. We really enjoyed John Burke’s Restaurant in nearby Clonbur. It was recommended by our host!

Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic ruined Abbey and the extraordinarily beautiful woods adjacent to Ashford Castle. There are many lovely walking trails amidst the huge trees - that include some redwoods. Sadly, many trees were downed during the devastating Storm Eowyn in January 2025, so a number of trails, including access to Lough Corrib beach, have been blocked. Also, be aware that this is a popular tourist area and buses can disgorge large groups at any time during the day. All the more reason to stay overnight!

Beautiful village and even during off peak season the scenery and entertainment was top notch. Fans of The Quiet Man need this little village on their to-do list. We visit every year at least once, sometimes 2 or 3 times with different friends

A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to...

A beautiful , well-kept little village with so much to explore on foot. The Abbey is free to visit and there are several river and woodland walks leading from it. Lots of wildlife to be seen, herons, ducks and even a leaping salmon! Lydons was a great place to stay and to eat in. We only stayed one night but will definitely go back to explore some more.

Beautiful village.

Beautiful village. Probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. Lots to do and a good location for several excursions. The restaurants in the village were all good. The service and the food were exceptional. The boat trip on the Loch was amazing. If I were Irish, I would move to Cong. I have never felt so relaxed and at peace. If you are a Quiet Man movie fan, this is the place for you. It was an added bonus for me.

We stayed at Michaeleen’s Manor B&B for a short visit during our trip through Ireland. The accommodation is quite simple and basic, which is fine if you’re just looking for a place to rest without high expectations. What really stood out was the friendly and helpful staff. They were warm, welcoming, and happy to assist with anything we needed, which made a big difference in our overall experience. Overall, a decent option for a quick stopover if you're not looking for luxury or extras.

Geraldine and Michael were wonderful hosts. A very warm welcome from Michael. Geraldine’s communication pre-arrival was extremely helpful. The whole property was immaculately clean. Breakfast was great and plentiful. In room T.V, WiFi, Tea and coffee and toiletries, were enjoyed. Great location just outside Cong village, near Ashford Castle and the stunning Connemara National Park. The property is a short walk down to the waters edge of Loch Corrib.

Rachael's lodge is a short walk to Cong and Ashford Castle and was perfect for my stay. Her rooms are lovely and comfortable. She made check-in a breeze and communicated quickly anytime I had a question. Food selections during breakfast were plentiful and I enjoyed sitting in her outdoor spaces in the evenings. Her special touches exceeded expectations and made this a terrific stay.

The first room we had was very small and uncomfortable but they moved us no question and it was far better. There was live music every night and the staff were friendly. Cong is a lovely village and hotel was in a great spot. Lovely breakfast and staff.
