Limerick revels in one of Ireland’s most iconic views – the River Shannon curving past King John’s Castle, a 12th-century fortress that could have come straight from a Grimm fairytale. Frank McCourt wrote ‘Angela’s Ashes’ about his childhood here, and his former school is a museum about him, set amid elegant Georgian architecture in the Newtown Pery district. Equally attractive is the custom house, now housing the Hunt Museum's eclectic collection of art and artefacts.
The 12th-century St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral is the city’s oldest building used daily, while St John’s Catholic Cathedral has Ireland’s tallest spire. The coexistence of the two is symbolic of the 17th-century accord between Jacobites and Williamites, supposedly signed on the Treaty Stone.
The Milk Market is a bustling hub of local produce sellers, and the shops of pedestrian Cruises Street are surrounded by restaurants and bars offering great nightlife, including some where you can jig to traditional Irish folk tunes.
The city is also sports mad. Munster Rugby play in Thomond Park, while the Gaelic Grounds ring with the sounds of hurling and Gaelic football supporters. Golf courses, a racecourse and greyhound stadium complete the picture.
Booking.com’s Limerick accommodation includes luxury hotels with spas and swimming pools, and cheap apartments near Shannon Airport.
Surprising to discover the extensive number of fine residential roads into city centre with beautiful old properties. Lovely quayside for strolling and a great choice of cafes and restaurants. Very satisfied with all our choices. Didn't see everything Limerick has to offer so would be willing to return again.
Limerick isn’t what I expected… it’s much nicer. The people are friendly and welcoming in most areas. Some areas are a little scary and wouldn’t like to be on my own but overall the city itself has a great buzz. Great restaurant options and copious amounts of coffee shops. Cool and trendy with traditional areas too.
We booked a king room. Unexpectedly, our room was actually a suite. We were presently surprised, and it was large enough to entertain our other couple who traveled with us. The one downside: we were on the front of the hotel, overlooking the street, and it was very noisy at night. The A/C didnt work in the hotel and we were on the 7th floor, so we slept with the windows opened. We were offered another fan, but declined, as the daytime temperature was comfortable with opened windows.
Limerick is a lovely city to visit with nice river walks by the Shannon. There are lots of places to visit in County Limerick, Adare, Lough Gur and Grange Stone Circle all a short drive from the city.
We didn't have much time to explore Limerick as we were in the city for a sporting event. We enjoyed a night out and visited a few nice pubs, one which had music. The meal we had in one of the pubs was excellent. Would definitely like to return to explore more of Limerick city.
Limerick is small city and you can see spend 1 day to see all city center. 1 time visit is enough to discover. Nothing much to see. I enjoyed my trip even the weather was cold. There are so many option for meal. Nothing special to me about Limerick.
just a beautifully modern appointed boutique hotel/Airbnb type accommodation. The freedom of self check in and exit to separate entrance and lovely decor and some very thoughtful ideas like a lounge area, small but appropriate gym area with a cafe/food next door. it is location is superb - city center on a pedestrianised street - luv it luv it luv it!
Staff were friendly and very helpful. Check-in and check-out were uneventful and quick. Undercover parking was included in the room rate. The room was modern, well maintained, clean and very comfortable. The hotel is located in a good area, with a short safe walk along the river to city centre area and St John's castle area.
The hotel is about 15 - 20 minutes walk from the city centre so the location is very good. The hotel was very busy on both evenings but the service was excellent. The manager was very helpful and all staff were courteous and polite. If we are ever in Limerick again I would certainly stay at the Woodfield.
A huge, comfortable room with one of the best views I've ever had at a hotel. While most hotels of this height tend to be away from the centre, this looked straight down on the river with the city beyond. A short walk into the city centre and the train station was nearby. Very helpful and friendly staff.
The hotel is great and located in the city center, just be careful once you book the night you will have a message from the hotel saying there is no free car park and the area can be noisy as it is located near restaurant/pub. Staying just one night on a Tuesday, no issue with the noise.
Our room was ready early and we were upgraded to the executive floor. The room was the best appointed that we stayed in Ireland. Location was close to bus and about 1 km from train station.
Near major thoroughfares (for me this was ideal) but not in Limerick City centre (if that is what you want). Very clean. Ample free car parking for guests.
Perfect location in Limerick city. Staff were very friendly. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Lovely hotel. Will definitely come back.
Fabulous Hotel. Lovely Breakfast .so near city centre.
