Wanted to eat in proper Irish pub with live music as we have done at several other locations. Loads of bars, none serving food. Plenty of takeaways but didn’t want to sit on a bench to eat. Stayed at end of holiday so wanted to take home some local produce, cheese, bread, cakes but just one supermarket selling same as UK. Handy stopping off point between Killarney and Dublin but little else going for it

The town is not what we expected!

The town is not what we expected! There are so many pubs and restaurants who do both sit down and take away meals. Lots of live music coming from several pubs walking up and down the town. Very nice place! Only 50 minutes from the Red Cow so we were able to get the Luas into Dublin. Although we drove ourselves, we saw lots of taxis so I'd imagine it's very easy to get around.

I reviewed Harry Potter Themed guest house, in the house room 4. The response I received was appalling to say the least. To say I should have booked the Hilton because I mentioned we had to collect our key from a table, with no one to give us bath towels that were not supplied in the bathroom and that the shower was dirty and not cleaned since last person used it and foul smell in the bathroom. Also no fire escape plan and dangerous exposed wires for the lighted cotton wool over the bed is childish and insulting. I am not posh in any way. Just expect a clean safe room. This is not a response anyone should expect from any accommodation.

The staff were great very friendly from the first to the last. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Parking was free and ample with all the facilities you might want on the one site. Just great all round.

Overall, the stay was amazing, the staff were really nice and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, and the bathroom was nice also. We had a meal at the charter bar and restaurant and everything was perfect, the food, the cocktails and the staff. I would suggest this hotel for anyone who wants to stay in the midlands of Ireland, its right in the centre of the town and next to the Cinema.

Staff were hit and miss in friendliness. We tried the Killeshin as something different. We normally stay in the Maldron in portlaoise but it didn't have availability for our dates. Unfortunately as someone who frequents portlaoise for stays it was a let down. I'm not knocking the hotel at all. It may well have just been unlucky on our part but ifs definitely put us off returning

This was our first time staying at the Iveigh House Hotel, Portlaoise, from the arrival to our check out time everything was excellent. The personal touches, greeting upon arrival, early check requested, a location with tons of character, centrally located and a breakfast which was superb, well done !

Well present, spotlessly clean and in an ideal location for our needs. May be back in Portlaoise on 5th of July and this will be our first choice for accomodation.
