Featuring a garden, barbecue facilities, and a terrace, Lodge in Portumna Ireland features accommodations in Portumna with free WiFi and garden views. Excellent location - kids loved the forest and castle. We brought bikes with us - had plenty of forest trips. Located just outside the town, could walk in for few drinks at night. Welcome pack on arrival was great.
There is quite a few things to do in Portumna. There's the Harbour on Lough Derg, cycling or walking around the forest park, the Castle and the Work House. And the town is a good base for the environs.
Lovely little town with beautiful Forest Park which is great for walking. The harbour and shops are lovely but the Castle is rather expensive for a visit. We did visit Birr Castle gardens which were lovely this time of year. Visiting the Work House is a must! So sad what the Irish people went through so makes us count our blessings.
A visit to Potumna castle and gardens is a must. Kitchen garden is fab. Really enjiyed the guided tour that we were able to tag along on too. Portumna forest park is great too - lovely way to pass an hour or too on foot or by bicycle.
Lovely place. The castle and gardens are beautiful. The Marina is stunning! Not a lot of choice of ships or takeaways but there are so many beautiful spots to visit around the town. There's a nice playground for kids and Terryglass is just a short drive away and gas some stunning views of the lake, picnic tables and a lovely playground.
I'd really reccomend the Portumna Workhouse. We received a great tour from Rosin who is from the area. We also visited Portumna Castle. The Kitchen Garden is a must see for any aspiring vegetable growers! We had a great kayaking trip on Lough Derg with Lough Derg Water Sports at Kilgarvan Quay which is about 20 mins drive from Portumna. The lake is beautiful and it is wonderful to experience the lake from a kayak. Portumna is easy to get around and parking is free. Everyone we met was obliging and very friendly.
Nice family place, medium size town, Lots of parks and the marina on the Shannon, nice for a boat trip, and rent a bicycle, lots of old castles and historical sites to look at. Romantic setting with not so much shopping
