Some of the best hotels in Sligo near Knocknarea include Strandhill Lodge and Suites, Surfers Getaway - Room Staycation and Strandhill Home, one minute from the beach and pubs.
We loved climbing Knocknarea. It is wonderful to walk the beach in Strandhill or in Rosses Point. Views of Benbullben are great. Strandhill Lodge and suites is a great place to stay, and food is fabulous in 'The Draft' and in ' The Strand', in Strandhill. Music is good in 'The Venue'. The views and scenery around Sligo are second to none.
Love the town itself it's really easy to get around on foot if you do bring the car park in abbey Street or up on connuaghtion Rd wouldn't park in the actual town too much stress. I ate in the hotel kudos bar. Shopping and nightlife is brilliant in sligo.
There is not much to do in Sligo town. Friday night the town was quiet. No buzz at all in the city center. i think that tells a lot. But it is a nice enough place, some pubs, museums and restaurants in the center but not many. there are on the other hand tonnes of sportswear stores for some reason.
We only stayed a night in Sligo, but we loved it; The feel of a city but the scale of a town. It's stylish & cosmopolitan with a very European feel combined with the much vaunted but not-so-often experienced Irish welcome. Sligo is very friendly;. we met lovely people in restaurants and shops who went out of their way to enhance our experience with their generously offered advice on places to visit & local info. Its scale, varied architecture & location on the river mad for a charming stay, we were highly impressed, and look forward to a return visit. High points were the lovely ladies (and range of clothes!) in Zulu who guided us to Streedagh beach and the perfect swim - it was blue and gold, an Impressionist painting - and the fantastic breakfast in Osta cafe, perfect eggs Florentine and the kefir smoothie was only a revelation, its location (on the river), decor and the excellent service by Lynne (an adornment to any establishment!) made for a delightful experience. Also the waiter in Hooked and the smoked salmon starter (swoon!) and the sign on the chalkboard "Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to dis a Brie?" Hey, what's not to love about Sligo?!!
Weather was glorious for our two days so we stuck to an outdoor itinerary. What's not to love. We only had 2 days but packed it. Strandhill beach walk and drive with lunch sitting outside in the sun at the Strand bar, Drumcliffe and Yeat's grave, Benbulben, Glencar waterfall, Lake Isle of Inisfree. Went south to Tubbercurry for a visit to the Normal People hotspots - Nathy Brennan's, Killorans, The Church Etc. Called to Cawley's Hotel and although lunch was over, Teresa there could not have been more accommodating and assembled a feast for us, even sending us home with Guinness Bread which was freshly baked at their hotel. Wonderful visit.
Sligo is a lovely city. The people are so friendly and helpful. It has plenty of activities and a great choice of places to eat out for every taste and palate. I love coming to Sligo for short breaks. I
The staff was helpful and accomodating. I was welcomed and shown the facilities. The place is clean and well maintained. The room was clean and smelled good. The bathrooms were clean. The bed was good, not great, but good enough. Overall, value for money, I'll 100% be back and stay again. There were fruit, biscuits, coffee and cereal for breakfast. Kitchen was also clean and tidy.

The hosts, Gerry and ..., were exceptionally pleasant and caring. A kind duo truly befitting of a magnificent, homely accommodation. They were earnest in making us a vegan breakfast and ensuring we had everything we needed to make our stay delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and hope to be back again.
Location ideal for access to the town of Sligo walking and also for getting out of town as all our games ( we were there for Feile) where at Rosses Point / Drumcliffe.
