Dehradun is a good place for week-end visit. It has temples, churches, monastery and malls to visit. If a solo traveler and want to explore by local transport, the facilities are good. Otherwise, one can hire scooter / bike and go around. But, one should expect traffic jams. Visit to Kalanga war memorial will give an experience of walking or riding through mountain roads lined with lot of trees and plenty of clean air. Maldevta is just a picnic spot, for photo shoot with mountain background. Spare a good amount of evening time for Mindrolling monastery at Clement town. If you are a Christian and do not want to miss the Sunday prayer, one can attend the prayer at St. Francis Church, Catholic church (near to Tibetan Market) or at Presbyterian Church very near to Clock Tower or at Morrison Memorial Church, a Protestant church a little far away from Clock tower. Tibetan market is well organized, and mostly the items are at fixed price. Spare at least 2 hours in the evening at Forest Research Institute to enjoy the vast greenery and the architectural delight. True to its name, the Land of Gods, Dehradun has lot of temples to visit and pay thanks.

Big showrooms, restaurants, hotels have come up in a large way since it is the capital of UK, yet, it retains its charm of a small city in some parts of the city. Another good thing is that within 15-20 minutes drive you can leave the city behind (traffic jams permitting) and get closer to the nature - whether it is the hill drive to Mussoorie side or the open farm side towards Rishikesh. Weather is better too when compared to the plains around Delhi - we were here during mid August & we experienced rains - it was quite pleasant with temperature hovering around 25 degree C. We stayed for 2 nights - unfortunately our experience with local food (outside our hotel) was not pleasant enough. Plenty of autos ensure that commuting is not a problem within the city. We enjoyed our visit to the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple. Drive to Mussoorie was pleasant though traffic was heavy.
