Beautiful place with camouflage with the same colored houses. great for shopping and nice dessert. Food was pathetic in dessert and programs can be improved t a great extent. Also camel safari was not upto the mark a very limited place for safari
The best time to visit the city is winter. The forts and desert safari are great. The local people are very helpful and friendly. However, the people involved in the tourism industry keep forcing the tourists to buy and spend. That is a big turn off, unfortunately it is like that with all the tourist places in the state of Rajasthan. Also, the parity in the palace ticket fees between Indians and foreigners is insane. Probably these are areas where the state government should work on.
Such an interesting place. The Old City inside the sandcastle fort is one of the most intersting and unique places. Traveller's Cup has good, reasonably priced coffee and breakfast. Otherwise restaurants aren't that great. The Palace Museum is expensive and not very interesting on the inside. The outside is better as are the narrow streets of Old Town. Canel rides are fun and usually well run.
Jaisalmer was a very historic and mystical place. We started in the Thar Desert for a Safari. Staying in Swiss Tents and doing a Camel Safari and a Jeep ride over the sand dunes. We had an amazing time being out in the desert. So many wild animals, the views amazing, the energy so expansive and so much fun. The Fort was really a wonderful thing to experience as well. I wanted to spend time there to be taken back in history and it was so mesmerizing to step back in time like that. I was a great experience.
Jaisalmer was interesting though we only had a shortish walk around the havelis. I would have liked to have seen the fort and the Jain temple - certainly worth a visit. We drove to the Sam Sand dunes, which we found very disappointing. At the roadside, they were in an poor condition, littered with broken glass and rubbish. There were also miles of roadside tents and hostels. Whilst I'm sure some are quite nice very little seems to have been done to make this an attractive environment and there was lack of general care and maintenance. Sadly, we were seriously unimpressed.

Anit, the guy at the reception is the man. He organized everything for us, from shipping postcards to arranging camel safari, taxi to airport, pickup from the station, etc. Excellent service and super friendly. The hotel has only 7 rooms which gives you a cozy feeling and a stunning roof top restaurant with view over the fort and city. Food was really good too, both dinner and breakfast. Totally recommend for anyone visiting Jaisalmer.

Hotel Suraj is a homestay situated in the historic location of Jaisalmer fort. One word of caution though is vehicles won’t go till there as auto will drop to the fort parking. But the hotel helpers are there to help you out. Rooms are nice and big and spacious and if you are staying in maharaja suite you get the Jain temple view from room.

Honestly, the location was the only thing we liked about the property. The hotel is located within the Jaisalmer Fort and was convenient for sightseeing. However, getting there to check in with all our bags was very inconvenient, especially when the staff wasn’t available to help us.

The outstanding aspects of Ganesh house are its location, in the heart of the fort, next to the Jain temples; and warm welcome and service provided by our host Jeetu; and the great camel safari his brother Sebastian helped us arrange into the desert. We needed an accessible room with minimal step and preferably ground level, and Jeetu was able to provide that. When ever we needed a recommendation, he always had the best information. Jaisalmer is an amazing living fortress, with many wonderful inhabitants. In the short time we visited there, we got to know many of them, and to hear their stories as we stopped in to visit and see their wares. The five of us (extended family from teenager to senior citizen with limited mobility all had a wonderful time shopping, snacking, seeing the sights, listening to native musicians, etc. Being able to stay in Ganesh House in the heart of all that all will always be an unforgettable experience for us.
