Snow Lion Ladakh, Tushita Ladakh, and The Grand Dragon Ladakh got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Leh.
Many families visiting Leh loved staying at Stok Palace Heritage, Gomang Boutique Hotel, and The Grand Dragon Ladakh.
The local inhabitants are very courteous and helpful. They are deeply conscious of the fact that tourism is a major source of their livelihood and everyone ensures that they play their roles in promoting it. The most noteworthy point is that there is a uniformity in the tourist tariffs and there is no haggling. This facet could very well be emulated by other tourist spots in India.
Minus temperature, visit should be in June or July. But if you want to see and enjoy snow, Mar/Apr right time. Transportation is expensive. You need a day to settle down with environment and weather and then start for site seeing. Most of the vendors prefer cash only. So carry good amount of cash. A bit unknown and on the flow requirements like, permit etc.
Don't stay in leh when u land there. Chose morning flight so that u can start exploring as soon as u land. Go straight to bike rent shops and get ur lady dressed up for carrying ur luggage. Head to ur camp in Nubra through Khardung La pass.Next day head to the Pangong Lake. Leave early. Stay in a camp or cottage. Enjoy the seret. Next morning leave early for Leh via Changla. On ur way back explore the Hemis Monastery and Shey Palace. When back in Leh, go to your stay, freshen up and then explore the City and surroundings and enjoy the local cuisine.
Great place for those who love the stark, scenic beauty of the desolate mountains. Pangong Lake, Nubra and overall the whole mountainous terrain is a once-in-a-lifetime must for those who love travelling and are always on the lookout for seeing new places. There are lot of things to keep in mind before heading to Ladakh - one is the low oxygen factor and why acclimatisation is absolutely essential. If you have generally unhealthy or have co-morbidities, think twice. Pre-paid mobiles don't work here, so ensure you have at least one post-paid phone with you -- that also will be out of network during most of the travelling, do note. Food is either nothing great, or available in a limited manner in most places - fresh produce and supplies have to come from the plains in most cases. Liquor, at least during the time we were there, was available only at a hefty premium from the black market. And oh yes, for some strange reason, all restaurants and cafes in Leh shut down by 9-9.30 in the night, pretty weird for a tourist hub. Transportation is almost solely by taxis that charge a premium, but thankfully it is more or less a fixed rate. Those young and/or adventurous could hire a Royal Enfield bullet to truly experience Ladakh the way bloggers and dreamers do. Keep in mind that fuel is prohibitively expensive (even by Modi's India's standards) and availability is sketchy on the mountain routes. And last, but not the least, keep in mind the weather while planning your itinerary.
Leh is a place with scenic mountains and beautiful people. The main market place was really awesome. The milkshare centre' "Pamposh Shake Corner" was really good. Loved the Samosa Chaat at "Neha Snacks", best one I ever had. The restaurant "Tibetan Kitchen" has the best food in all of Leh. Had the best Thupka and momos there. The Tsemo Gompa, Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, and the Old Leh were breathtakingly beautiful. It is better to walk around the Market Place and explore Old Leh adjacent to it in order to experience this place to it's fullest potential. The locals were what made the visit more memorale. I would advice everyone to rest for 2 days once you reach Leh to get acclimated to it's weather and low oxygen levels. It will be better to walk around your surroundings these first 2 days.
Over rated.. unless you are going for trekking or motorbike riding, and then I think it would have been more fun. Sites are beautiful, but drives are too long and there is not much to do (other than enjoy nature) in the tourist destinations.
Had a fabulous stay at Lhachik! The guest house is very clean and comfortable. Delicious home cooked food is available here. The location ia great. There is a shortcut from here to walk to the market in 10 mins. I showed up very early and Singay was kind enough to arrange a room for me. He's a great host and a reliable and caring person. Singay is the man to know in Leh. He can sort you out with everything from stay and food to cars and trips. He went out of his way to help me plan a trip to Tso Moriri. I will definitely be back here.
The hotel manager Gyaru is an excellent host. Very good quality of service and maintenance at the hotel. Room was superb and matched up very well to 5-star expectations. Got a free upgrade as well to a room with a balcony. Great location, very close to the market and walking distance from anything important within Leh city. There is a great bar with a great owner just down the street - Lechen Bar & Restaurant - one of the only places serving liquor in Leh especially in the off season - Owner of Lechen - Yatso is an excellent host.
Leh
It was a nice, peaceful experience staying at Jimmy's homestay, the owner's family is very supportive and helpful, it's located at a distance of 10-15minutes walk from Leh market, we preferred to have food (mostly dinner) at the homestay and they cook with love and home style cooked food which is not spicy and keeps you and your digestive system safe from the sudden change in altitude.
It was a little far(2kms) from the Leh market but that was the best part as the location is free from city noise and the mornings are best from the region and on top of it the service from host is the best. She helped us to arrange Taxi,Bikes, hotels in Hunder apart from serving us homely Breakfast and Dinner.
Consider the remote location of the town Leh, the hotel was very pleasant to stay. The shower was decent with hot water in July, towels and amenities were good and had nothing to complaint about. Very friendly staffs and a nice terrace to enjoy the mountains in the distance over a cup of chai.
